This is exclusive to middle aged dudes / Cicerones on social media.

holy shit, stop. I don’t care what new hype pils or ba stout you’re drinking while shitting on hazy ipas, or what random, useless insider info you’re shamelessly plugging. We know you just need to gain more followers and views, but that’s what makes it so pathetic.

    Anyways, dumbass rant over

The reality is there’s an influencer for everything these days. On the one hand I do have an account that I love to share new stuff that I’m drinking and support breweries I love in any way I can. On the other hand I write and edit for a beer publication, so the things I share and find are relevant to what I publish there as well. At the end of the day, just like with any other type of influencer, they are there for the people that DO care. The people that don’t aren’t being forced to view their content or follow them in any way. That’s just my view on it.

Dude, you're at least a generation off. The, LOl, "influencers" tend to be younger than what you think is middle age. Once one is 40ish, one tends not to give much of a fuck about what others think.

You don't have to look at their social media pages. Ignore them.

I despise the modern term "influencer". It isn't an adequate word for the intent for definition. Can you imagine a more boring treatise than :"The Influencers Today"?

I guess I grew up with a built-in prejudice against influencers, since both my grandmothers lost infants to it back during WWI. An uncle and an aunt that I'd never know.

Oh, wait. Never mind. That was Influenza.

Even better than ignoring, delete instagram. I have a facebook account with no extra info and I only use it for a few local breweries. I wish I didn't have it at all but such is the reality of how breweries choose to communicate these days...why have a website with detail when you can post pictures that just look nice and get the same effect

    Are there any influencers here?

Somehow I'm not connected, probably too old? Isn't WBAYDN enough? That is democracy! Following all!

To be an influencer, that implies an individual has an influence on something. I can't think of any non-industry beer folk who qualify. At least not-counting professional writers and such. Pretty sure they consider themselves a step beyond "influencer."

I too agree we must stop whoever is forcing us to follow and look at the social media profiles of these beer influencers!

Yes. I'm the Officious Influencer. I am the officer of ought to and should. I can show you the proper way to load your dishwasher and when best to mow you grass. I am at my best when I get paid to say things I don't necessarily believe but I do have to pay for cable. So. it's OK.

The irony of complaining about not wanting to hear the opinions of influencers (that are actually very easy to ignore) by making an entire thread dedicated to them on BeerAdvocate lol.

Is there a way to stop? For me, it started with some innocent reviews of the latest hazy boiz but now it's escalated to the point where I can't sleep! Last night I watched 5 makeup tutorials, a review of an electric lawn mower only sold in Australia and New Zealand, and enough reviews to decide which brand of garbage disposal i would buy if I owned a juice bar!

Why did beer influencers do this to me?

Serious question now, are there people who have gotten popular enough doing video beer reviews that they're making money on it or is it just hobbyists and perhaps a side gig for other "drinks media" professionals?

I find it hard to believe they are making $$ off it, but getting free beer? Sure.

I am uncertain what exactly how "influencer" is defined but perhaps an example is Darwin? He conducts video reviews of beers. Below is a video where he unboxes the beers that were sent to him from Roaring Table Brewery:
