Ehh, I land firmly in the age of "influencers", and yet don't interact or see their stuff on social media. The algorithm will feed you what you interact with - perhaps it's time to reevaluate that...?

I'm more annoyed at the "influencers" that only drink hazy ipas/pastry stouts and post pics of their enormous hauls. For the most part I'm OK with the middle aged snobs (ha).

I don't mind listening to paid opinion, I simply do not like the term "influencer". It is hugely pretentious. "Hello, my name is Ed Norton". "And what do you do Mr. Norton". "I'm an influencer by trade".

Darwin is largely a reviewer, not an influencer. Most beer "influencers" I've seen are a female with a 16oz beer wedged between their breasts.

But the unboxing videos of reviewers are getting into some beer related (non) ****.

Is there an unambiguous definition on what constitutes an "influencer"?

Doesn't Darwin via his reviews (e.g., I give this beer 94 out of 100) 'influence' people to buy certain beers?

    Cheers!

I'm with you, can't stand the term either. That said, if I could get breweries to send me their best stuff, on their dime, just by posting some reviews online I'd do it in a heartbeat.

He probably does but kinda shouldn't. How does one know that Darwin's palate is remotely similar to theirs?

Precisely why I don't read reviews on this, or any other site.

So is an influencer someone who gets paid or no?

I've got no problem with it. It's an inexpensive way for small breweries to advertise their beers and events. You can always mute them on your IG feed.

I’ve never heard of this guy, so I checked out his channel. He has views in the low hundreds, so I don’t think he’s doing much “influencing”. Looks to me just more like a hobby

But a so called 'hobby' where breweries send him beer. Sounds like a cool 'hobby' to me. :beers:

    Cheers!

Anti-social media. So glad the only two that apply in my world are BA and Untappd. Not on anything else and do not care to be, not when I see how little they care about their security and the havoc these platforms generate especially as we've seen lately with people living in their own vacuums and rogue nations using it to get us attacking each other.
Shit at the dawn of the internet it was all about anonymity now we let it all hang out for it to be taken and wonder how and why identities are stolen
    Influencers...posers, shills and sycophants.
Here's a cat, like many who have chosen not to go back to traditional careers making a living creating content if it works for him great but like anything it's not gospel. Grain of salt or just keep it moving.

Have you said this to them directly? Haha. Seriously tho a lot of people in this world don't have much in their lives wether to live for or be proud of etc etc it's what they have to feel something

There's a guy at work who brags about how good he is at digging holes. I just avoid and ignore him lol. Similar shit

The idea of "The Influencer" still hits me strange, but we all are aided by finding someone(s) who publicly speaks about things we enjoy, and describes their feelings in a way that helps us make a choice, or brings us to new enjoyments. Ideally it is someone with similar tastes to our own

    Pardon me. I'm mature.

What is this thing called an Influecer? And why does anyone care? Are we not capable of forming our own opinions?

I think if we ignore the influencer they will go away.
    Cheers

    Edit.
Semi useless thread. I have real beer things to worry about.

It's what became of the "spokesperson" once pop culture decided that "authenticity" was important
