Thanks, but just dumb luck on the bottle shape. So glad you had one left, I'd given up hope!

Devil Child from Eviltwin. English barleywine brewed with maple syrup and vanilla.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with a bit of head. Tons of bubbles rising along the sides of the glass. The nose is as advertised - maple and vanilla come through pretty quickly. Some nice toffee comes through as well. Dark fruit follows - plums, blueberries, and some jolly rancher candy.

The taste is really nice. Cola, vanilla, maple, toffee, grapes, cherries, blueberries, and sweet candy. Definitely a bit on the sweet side, but very drinkable. Overall, a nice barleywine.

To bad I can't edit, but just had to add the great level of smoke that beer has...I didn't really pick up on it till I was half way through. Really cut the sweetness nicely. I can still taste that smoke

I have to have another foil wrapped enigma from @Beersnake1 tonight. The suspense is too much not to. Will this one be the top secret Hill Farmstead / Side Project collaboration, Double Barrel Aaronbasis? Or will it be some abomination like a ghost pepper barleywine?

I'm going to say this an American barleywine, bourbon barrel aged. 12% ABV? There are fruit components, apple primarily, that made me wonder briefly about a different barrel, but I'm going to say bourbon. Tons of sticky sweet caramel, various apple deserts, and brown sugar plus rich booze and a nice bite at the finish, oaky vanilla and some hop bitterness. This is really tasty and going down fast!

    The reveal-

Couple of thoughts after finding out what I'm drinking.

I lowballed my guess on the ABV so that means they hid it well.

I identified a vanilla flavor but not a specific vanilla addition. To me that means they used it extremely well, though some vanilla lovers may have preferred more I thought it was perfect. For my palate this is far better than Intrepid Orchid

This can is from 2019 and has held up great. As more barleywines are canned I've wondered about keeping them around for years. This suggests that won't be a problem.

Another great selection, this is a lot fun! Hope you get to chime in tomorrow.

Nice! I had one with a bit of age and it was fantastic - not really different from when it was fresh. I agree that they used the vanilla very nicely. Not overboard. Glad you enjoyed it!

I'll be in San Diego tomorrow (at the Zoo) for my daughters birthday and probably won't be back in time to get the beer cool and consume (assuming the box arrives). Sunday for sure! Cheers!

I cracked one open a little bit ago, Barreled Souls' "Blonde on Blonde" -- Blonde Barleywine aged in Barton's Bourbon barrels for 13 months.

A bit sweet, but not overly so. Notes of golden raisins and toffee. Big kick of bourbon, but it doesn't overpower the base beer. Once again Barreled Souls hits it out of the park.

2013 Bigfoot. 9 year old beer celebrating my 9 year old's birthday today. What a sweet spot for me. Tons of caramel and smooth sweetness, but still with a slight hop bite at the end. This is so well-rounded and smooth. I could drink this every night.

Drinking a MoAS. It's a pretty boozy beer. Not sure it's as good as everyone makes it sound. Tons of barrel, but the base beer is muddled as a result.

Still want to try triple barrel A Deal With the Devil @Harrison8 ? On Oct. 22nd Anchorage is releasing 4 different versions plus a triple barrel Wendigo. Looks like they're all coming in a box set. Anyone have a guess on retail/secondary market prices? Think it'll hit Tavour and make very glad to have quit?

I did spring for a bottle of the last batch and thought it was great, though not the singular experience I was hoping for. I'd be intrigued if they used something other than brown liquor in some of these, port or cognac maybe.

I'd guess the set runs $400 to $500, considering it's triple barrels. I'd also wager they put it in a fancy box to help justify this price.

If it's that much, I'll pass. I haven't found any of their 375mL bottles to be worth the $50 price point, and I can't imagine it'd be worth any more to me. I still have a Tavour account, but swipe off all the notifications. I haven't opened the app in a while.

I won't say any of them have been worth it, but there have been some I did not regret buying. Haven't opened it yet but I do have high hopes for Deal with Evil.

Having another mystery barleywine courtesy of Beersnake.

Oh yeah, straight up hoppy American barleywine here. No barrels, no addjunks, a rare breed these days. Clear amber color with golden edges. Pours with a big, rocky head that leaves lots of lace in its wake. I taste lots of pine and citrus rind. The malt base is lovely, plenty of caramel but also shortcake and sugar cookies. Guessing 11% ABV. This might have a few years on it? If so, the years have been well spent, drinking great right now. I'm enjoying the heck out of this, great balance here. The reveal-

This is a 2022 bottle, so not well aged just well made! This is quite the throwback, straight up hoppy barleywine, bomber format, classy silk screened bottle. Digging it.
