Never had any of the Derivations before until D7 at Zwanze Day. Not a bad place to start.

 

that beer was incredible fresh. i’m assuming it’s held on well with maybe some toned down barrel?

 

any terminus reports or too much other good stuff to drink this weekend?

 

Looks like @Vitacca gave the rye a 4.25 and would like some SARA bottles in a trade.

And @OakvilleKGB Gave the bourbon a 4.5.

 

I would love to go in on a bottle of the vanilla and stag. Never got to change the try them. I should be able to be there pretty close to open.

Dang it. Kids stuff this AM and hoped DB Anabasis would last. Oh well, plenty of good stuff still there I’m sure.

Just trying to understand your scale. You gave 4.5 stars to rye as fine.

 

I only had like 1.5 ounces of it so not the most rating worthy sample

 

Just saw a 4.5 check-in for a beer that was "falling off." Whale scale adds a whole point as far as I'm concerned.

 

Here's the thing...the number of people on the planet who have had more than 1.5-3 oz of any Derivation on any given day is miniscule. Taster ratings of pastry whales has driven an entire market of syrup and sludge that IMO is worse than the IBU race of the 2000s. Sometimes making an impression with an explosive flavor profile for a few seconds is more consequential than making a beer that's remotely palatable for more than 3oz.

Arrive at brewery at 3:50, get a pour of TWCP D


At 4:15 decide to go over to the cellar to split a bottle of Terminus


Walk back over at 4:45 for DB Gen

 

Probably true. I’m an avid UT user, but it’s a tool for me for recall of beers/experiences. I just wish people would be comfortable with an honest rating or no rating at all instead of stock 4.5s, etc. because of what beer it is as opposed to the condition it’s in. Whale Scale is a perfect name for it.

 

And to be clear, I personally try my best to rate OFF of the Whale Scale.

 

So this is another mess up. For some reason they told me all orders reference the main store which makes 0 sense. If you are like me you will pick up at the actual store you ordered from. Learned the hard way.
