I typically tip one of these to the brave captain and crew on the anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and every year, I say I should drink more of this excellent porter. This year I'm starting early and working my way up.

Let's keep this forum about beer!

Hair of The Dog Brewery -- Cherry Adam From The Wood
Dark strong ale aged aged in bourbon barrels with fresh Oregon cherries
    ABV: 13.5%; pouring temperature: 45 °F; bottling info: 2022

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4
    Revisited: October 13th, 2022

Burnt umber color, opaque in the stemless tulip glass; thin yet lasting ring of foam circling the glass circumference, slippery legs of foam slide down the glass with every sip. Prominent raw oak aroma; lesser presence of raisins, leather, and tobacco; a hint of old cherry. Slightly sour taste; cherry; figs and raisins; woody phenols; brandy-like. Heavy body; light velvety quality to the mouthfeel; alcohol warmth.

I like this edition of the beer, but was more impressed with the 2020 version I had a few months ago. This latest edition seems a bit thinner in flavor and mouthfeel. Perhaps a couple of years of further aging more develop more complex flavors. I have one bottle left (may get a few more), so the empirical method certainly will come into play in the future.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Original July 13th, 2022 review of 2020 vintage: 3.75 3.75 4.5 4.5 4.25; overall: 4.23; rDev: -2.1%

Muddy, brown body with a thin, wispy ring of foam and thin patches of head riding atop the beer. Faint aroma; pleasant cherry sweetness backed with a faint, musty wood note. Sweet cherry flavor interspersed with sharp bourbon flavors; very mild fruit tartness; raw white oak; rye. Heavy body; fairly smooth overall; a bit acidic.

Few beers are like Hair of The Dog beers, and that makes them unique and enjoyable. This edition of Cherry Adam is quite enjoyable in the taste department. It is somewhat like a boozy black cherry pie. As the beer warms, a lasting yet thin head does form across the top of the beer plus a little stronger smell develops, more malty in character. A nice and different beer.

    Pouring temperature: 41 °F; bottling year: 2020

I recommended the brewery based on others recommendations, and since I love the traditional British Beer Styles and beers on cask. I plan on going the next time I venture further West in California than Death Valley / Kern River. Waiting until all possible "restrictions" are not remotely possible, not planning another trip only to cancel. Perhaps 2023 or 2024.

I also did not have my first Spencer until they went out of business. Was an older bottle but held up well. It's a shame they are closed and I didn't get to them sooner.

Catching up on my beer spreadsheet and the WBAYDN / NBW / NBS and tasting threads I didn't have a chance to read during the busy Summer. Always enjoy reading the threads.

Will return later with at least one beer, heading to Revolution shortly to pick up the second 2022-2023 Deep Woods Release (Cafe Deth, Deth's Tar and Deth by Currants).

    Till then, cheers Beer Advocates!

Oerbok. Seasonal (fall) bokbeer from De Hemel brewery (Nijmegen, NL).
Never had a beer from De Hemel (Heaven) before. But this beer gives a clear impression they know what they're doing (very well).
    Cheers!

When you go to a real-life bar, is it required, and do you (only) talk about BEER? No! So, why would/should it be different here, at the VB (Virtual Bar)?

EDIT: Staying on topic is important in other forums/threads, because they are usually very specific to one subject.

This thread has always been easy going and open to lots of different things. As long as it doesn’t get political, sexist, racist, etc., then there is no harm. Along with their beer, lots of people chat about music, art, pets, and other things. It’s like taking a seat at the bar, as noted by @WCKDVBZ . Of course, beer is front and center.

I will not bother going back and forth here, so I will leave it at this . For more than a decade, people have talked about numerous things in this thread while consuming the amazing beverage we call beer. If someone posts a gorgeous photo (see ALL of the posts by @BeerVikingSailor !) or an amazing accomplishment (see @eppCOS ), is it wrong to ask where it was taken or how it went? Come on, this is a social thread and it has always been like this. In decline? I don’t think so. I am pretty sure the majority of people enjoy a little “life” in this thread. Cheers!
