Half Acre Brewing Co (2022)

Jealous! Not a big glassware guy, but that is one of my all time favorites and bummed I missed it.

 

Opened my first of these last night and enjoyed it over the course on MNF. Wasn't really expecting much due to the adjuncts used and my fears of it being overly sweet but I was pleasantly surprised by how balanced it was. Some sweetness on the draw from the mallow and vanilla but the sea salt cuts that on the finish and leaves a nice chocolate note behind. Barrel is present throughout which is another welcomed surprise. I find that too often the barrel gets muted completely with these types of adjuncts but Half Acre did a really nice job on this one. Thanks for the kind words! Its a bit of a marriage of two of my passions; art and beer! Since my daugther was born I no longer have the time to invest in painting or doing "proper" art so these beer pictures are my creative outlet these days because I can produce them in about 10 to 15 minutes. The background was created with spray paint on glossy poster board and some editing with the Snapseed app. If you have any interest in seeing more like it I have an Instagram page under the same screen name where I post them all.

 

Orin should be discontinued for a full thickness barleywine. Hopefully those barrels you saw are exactly this

Nor am I. I'm really selective about buying glassware. I think the last 3 I bought were this, VSOJ/Deepwoods, and Side Project's glencairn. IIRC, this DB Catch Hell glass was released before the beer sale. I went ahead and bought one knowing I may not get lucky with the beer. Was one of those moments where I realized I didn't have a HA glass in my life and this was definitely going to be it.

 

I have 2 still wrapped in the tissue paper,I could trade 1 if you are really wanting one.

Finally picked up a 2 pack of VIM.

The original batch from a couple years ago I remember being excellent. Tons of charred barrel notes with beautiful marshmallow coming through.

This recent batch is pretty poor I must say.

Very disappointed.

 

Looks like it's in their system at $14.99 for two 12 oz cans. Showing Limited Availability in a bunch of Chicago area locations. Hopefully I see it this week...

FFS, it's only the middle of October. I can't be buying beers from 400 miles away for the next 4 months.

But I will anyway.

 

Is it sad that when I only see one adjunct these days it just doesn’t seem worthwhile?
