Thought it was right around then. Also about the time the masses joined the craft beer wave. Post flood and canned Topper infancy

I find their use of "air" in their marketing statements to be disingenuous. Assuming the common usage of "air" as the atmospheric gas mix, then beer served with a normal CO2 (or Nitrogen blend) draft system is not exposed to "air" either.

I posted a diagram of a bag-in-tank setup in this post. The beer would have to already be carbonated prior to going into the bag.

Versus in a normal Brite Tank, beer would be in contact with the inside of the stainless steel tank, and would be under pressure from C02 (not "air") to push the beer out either for kegging/packaging, or directly to an on-site tap setup.

The quote below, from an earlier post, elaborates on the process a bit more

Yeah, I understand how their system works. I just think their marketing is a classic strawman argument. It implies their system is better because the beer isn't exposed to air. But in a normal draft system, that isn't the case either. (Unless they are arguing against a traditional cask/beer engine system and not a modern CO2 draft system?)

The LUKR bags (or connections) must allow some small amount of air ingress, or they wouldn't say the beer has to be drank within 10 days.

Thanks, I remember your post. But this is really helpful.

So is then the first “bag in a tank” set up in the US?

I hit a pay wall so couldn’t read it, but I think it might have the quotations in there. I started going through the first couple pages of that thread too but then got bored. Big 27 page thread.

I’ll hunt around my screenshots and see if I saved it. I believe it was(or was going to be) the verbiage on the label. I’ll get back to you.

It's the first system manufactured by Lukr installed in North America, by their acknowledgement. But a quick google search indicates there are other international manufacturers offering similar "bag in tank" systems, and there is an American manufacturer based out of Missouri called Paul Mueller that offers a system.

They list a couple case studies: a brewery called Mad Mole Brewing in North Carolina that opened in 2018, and a brewery called Together We're Bitter in Ontario Canada that opened in 2014.

So it looks like Sacred Profane is definitely not the first if you look beyond Lukr.

Not stateside, but perhaps the most distinguished: Brief video that details the process

I don’t think this was answered: the 12 packs will be distributed to stores. IG post says retail store names to follow.

I saw their beer at a restaurant over the weekend. It was up in the Norway/Paris, ME area. I was super excited to see it in the wild because I thought you could only get draft pours at the Tankpub. Without hesitation I ordered one! The bartender walked over to all the tap handles and started to draw off a pint into a shaker glass from a standard faucet. Foam for days; the poor bartender tried and tried and finally came back to me and said, “sorry that beer is not available right now.” Now, I normally don’t give a shit about proper glassware and draft etiquette, but I’m thinking that SP does. So, I guess I was just surprised to see their beer on tap without a Lukr Faucet and into a shaker pint glass. Are those the reasons the bartender was getting nothing but foam? Was this an anomaly? I had so many questions for the bartender but I didn’t want to come off like a know it all Beer Geek so I just ordered something else.

I’m not trying to criticize anyone here, not SP or the restaurant. It’s merely an observation.

From what I understand, there isn’t going to be a ton — if any — presence on tap (Novare likely the exception). I think it went out to whet the appetite a little bit but more so because cans were late to come in. In the future, it won’t be out in the wild even to the small degree it is now.

As an avowed draft guy, I’m interested to see how it translates to cans because I found the beer incredibly quaffable on tap at the source.

That’s why I found it so strange that they sent it out to so many places. I get the excitement and spreading it around to whet the appetite, but a lot of those places are not going to have a LUKR faucet and isn’t that the point of their system-that’s where their beer is best. So if you have a shitty pour out and about and beer is usually it’s best on draft, that’s not going to make me want to necessarily seek out cans except for convenience.

Again, I loved my time there, but unlikely I’d order those beers anywhere else unless it was from a LUKR/proper pour. I’m curious how they’ll translate to cans as well.

Entirely up to you but you might want to reach out to the Notch folks and relate your experience. I would think they would want to be aware of this situation.

    Cheers!

They are talking about Sacred Profane in this experience, not Notch.

Actually it’s funny Notch was mentioned. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any of their Czech lagers out in the wild other than Notch Pils.

I’ve recently seen Salem Lager and Festbier, but I don’t believe either is served via Lukr on site.

I went with a 12-pack of Dark (choice mostly made because my wife likes dark beer), and after the damage we did to that last night, I’m bummed I didn’t just do both. The Pale might be my preference … until next time I go.

Then popped into Tributary for a four pack of the altbier and a bottle of MtL. Tod convinced me for 4 oz of the Baltic Porter, but I was too rushed to give you a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Back to SP, but I just can’t help being impressed by what’s happening there. Beautiful, custom-made brew house. Two well made beers. Just a lovely place to spend a couple hours. Again, I flew solo, but I’m excited to bring friends and eat food and stay a while
