Dang, that sounds magnificent! I love it when brewers mix barrels like that.

Collective Comprehension from Bottle Logic. Bourbon barrel aged with coconut and almond.

I've come love coconut stout, not sure how many coconut barleywines I've had? The base barrel aged barleywine is, of course, amazing. Drippy, boozy toffee, vanilla, smoothe whiskey, and faint raisin. The coconut is noticeable throughout while the almond comes on at the end. The nuts are prominent in the aroma. I can't help but think these extras are better in a stout. This works pretty well and it's definitely growing on me as I sip, but that may be the 15% talking. As I near the end I actually really like this. It's reminiscent of a decadent desert I can't quite name.

I would tend to agree with you. I think vanilla goes nicely in a barleywine, but some things seem to go better with stouts (like coconut). Don't get me wrong, I loved this barleywine.

Forgot to take a picture/post last night when I was drinking it, but Tree House's Tree Of Tranquility was awesome! Pineapple and vanilla adjuncted and aged in Madeira and Sherry casks. It sounds insane, and it is. The pineapple has a grilled vibe to it, the malt is nutty and nicely sweet, and the wine barrels cut through nicely. Highly recommended if you liked adjuncted BW

That post-barrel dry hop gives it an amazing aroma. And then (tonight at least) it’s all bourbon butter.

I fished the little bastard out to finish my beer and to my surprise, it was still alive. Stumbled mightily around my fingertip before falling off.

This could fool anyone into thinking it was a stout until you drink it. Why do darker barleywines taste so much better?? And why are some clear and some not? I don’t know much about barleywines, other than I want to drink all of them.
Vanilla Maris from Timber Ales and Horus. I thought it was going to be too sweet and too thiccc, but it’s not.

Thanks to @FBarber for the chance to try this magnificent beast! Goose Island Small Batch 05, Peaches and Cream. This is a big ol' wheatwine clocking in at 13.3%, aged two years in bourbon barrels then finished with peaches and vanilla. There aren't enough wheatwines and there aren't enough peach beers.

First off, the booze is NOT shy, but in such a good way. This reminds me a lot of the peach infused bourbon I do sometimes. It's impossible to separate the peach and whiskey flavors, they join to become something totally different and dangerously drinkable. If this is all there was I'd like this beer plenty. Under that though are really nice notes of toffee, vanilla, and a woody cinnamon that make this taste like an R-rated peach cobbler that better be kept away from open flames. This should come with a flaky, buttery crust. I had high hopes for this that were exceeded. They have all the elements at work here proportioned just about perfectly. Go Phils!

Pours a clear copper color, huge khaki head and some spotty lacing. Popping the can open and you get a huge whiff of vanilla and maple, it tastes exactly like it smells, unfortunately it's just too damn sweet. Sticky mouthfeel. Pretty hard to finish this.

I had a GI wheatwine from @FBarber (thank you for these!) while watching the Phillies win game 1 then I wasn't able to watch game 2, which they lost. Going back to what works with another big ol' beast for game 3. #04 this time, after aging in Wild Turkey barrels for two years they let this beer rest on toasted applewood honeycombs to impart the nuanced flavors of an additional wood.

Again, this is intensely, immensely flavorful, nothing subtle here. Massive sweetness up front in the form of toffee and whiskey primarily with hints of vanilla, raisin, plus cooked apples and pears. Maybe a little chocolate and bananas foster as well?? The finish dries out just a bit with deep oak and a lighter, brighter earthy bitterness. At 15% the alcohol is unsurprisingly not shy, but it is really well incorporated and maybe helps keep the sweetness in check. GI has a great thing going here with these wheatwines, they are just amazing. Looking forward to trying #02.

Yogi Berra supposedly said that it's bad luck to be superstitious. Easy to say while winning 10 rings for the most dynastic of dynasties. Do you think I'll jinx the Phillies if I switch up from wheatwine tonight for this one?

Found a couple of barleywines in Germany, and this is the first. Dream #4 from Fuerst Wiaceck in Berlin. ABV is 10%

Poured at just warmer than fridge temp. Pours an opaque orange with almost no head. Nose is full of rich caramel. Wow. Werther's all the way. A bit of apple and pear, and a nice bready malty layer. I wouldn't say the nose is overly complex, but what's there is very nice.

The taste is very good. Not hoppy at all. This does not, to me, fall within the category of American Barleywine. This is more English. Malty, caramel, oranges, biscuits, a touch of plums. It's mildly sweet. It seems a bit under carbonated, which could lead to a syrupy feel if it was too sweet. However, this misses that point by not being overly sweet. Slide white wine note comes through with time. Very enjoyable with a medium body. Alcohol content not detectable. 4/5

Nice to see Germany brewers putting out barleywines!

That's very light looking for a Barleywine.

EDIT: And with your description of it. It almost sounds like a Malt Liquor. :astonished:
