I’m heading there tomorrow. I’ll try to remember to take a peek.

Yes, though not purchased very recently. The ones I got were dated from Feb. I'm personally fine with SR 6 months and under.

Yeah, I noticed some time ago that cans no longer have a date stamp.

    Thanks. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. I've never had one that long after canning and wasn't sure how they held up.

But only those. The other beers were stamped.

I do Iike me some Sunny Ridge, but I purchase it when it first comes out and then don’t really buy much more.

Just a personal preference. Because right now I can get super fresh Tenner and German Afternoons from Notch, and probably something from Schilling that’s a pale lager and fresher if I wanted variety.

We’re really lucky these days in the Northeast lager scene. I didn’t even mention Idle Hands…and probably others I’m forgetting. Heck, if I went further out, Silvaticus…etc.

The 15 packs of house lager are always stamped, though being in mass, freshness is never really any issue anyways

i disagree. down here on the south shore most of the JA i see is 4-6+ months old, excluding seasonal releases.

Date was tough to read but it did look like February. Had one on draft and it was still tasty.

that’s too bad. 4 months is about as old as I see, which I don’t mind at all for a lager. 6 months is stretching it, I’d be curious to do a side by side.

Thanks for checking the cans and good to know that what they kegged is still good. Unfortunate that it is from the original canning but we'll see how I feel on the day I go. I would hope that they're concerned with the quality of what they sell on premises and that they've kept it in a cooler instead of at room temp for 5 months. But for $2 a pint it's hard to complain too vigorously.

I've been noticing a steady decline in availability of Hoponious Union. It's been tought to find even at grocery stores especially with the summer mixpack. Anyone else noticing a reduction on the shelves? Such a great brew.

Same for me, anything I see in CT is at least 6-9 months old. I did grab a 12 pack in Springfield a few weeks back. It was delicious and sated my appetite. I don't see post shift much anymore either now I think of it.

I'm not too surprised that we're seeing some issues with availability/age is some places. This is completely speculation, but I would think that the following may be playing a part:
    • Expanding distribution to more Mid-Atlantic states
    • Shifting a large volume back to kegs for on-premises accounts
    • Losing their head brewer--I haven't heard who has replaced Gleason
This is a lot of change to absorb in a couple of months. Hopefully things will smooth out soon.

Also, if the beer on the shelf of your local is older than you want to buy, send them a quick email. JA has been responsive on BA before and I'm sure they would like to know if and where their beers are sitting for 9 months on a room-temp shelf. They can't hold the distributor accountable if they don't know about the issue.

Swung by tonight had the smoked Steinbier on draft which was lovely. Got the Munich style export lager and the DIPL Chill Haze to go. Will see how they are later.

Yes, but as it went out in mid-July I'm not sure how much will be left. I don't remember if they still had it available to go from the brewery and the online menu isn't live right now.

Dang, July? Don't know how I missed that. Was lucky to try a pour up at Novare Res recently and it was quite good

Per JA's newsletter, Red Tape is releasing this week. This beer has become one of those I look forward to most from them.

Newsletter also says lagerness monster and BA framinghammers are also releasing this week in new flavors this year. I don't know about anyone else but I've been scarred by the BA framinghammers the past 2-3 years. but the last few bottles I've purchased haven't been up to quality they used to have - one of those few being completely off and an expensive drain pour. Maybe I was just unlucky and got some duds.
