I had a salted caramel Barleywine from 3 Floyds, Pillar of Beasts, last night. I wanted to try this one soon after in order to better compare and contrast.

This is better at replicating salted caramel. I generally prefer beer without all the extras, but stouts seem to work better than barleywine for pastryfication. They've achieved a really nice caramel note here accented wonderfully by strong cocoa and hints of salt. Now I'm craving a regular Parabola, but this really, really works well.

This is pretty intense. Massive dark chocolate/unsweetened cocoa, barrel char, coconut. It’s a lot thicker than I expected, which will thrill most people. I actually wish it was slightly thinner because of how rich the flavors are

Seeing that California has slim pickins as it is when it comes to RIS this is mighty fine

I am assuming it's not hoppy with the coconut and coffee?

I did see this on Victory's social media a few weeks ago. I hate coconut, so I'm bummed they didn't just release the normal version

The Alchemist - Luscious. Starts a little sweet but has enough molasses and black licorice notes to even it out. The mouthfeel is amazing - thick and.......luscious.

DFH Wake Up WWS. pretty damn good. nice roasted malts and coffee with a touch of maple. heavy alcohol presence, which i dig. enjoyed this one but also not sure any iteration of WWS is going to top Utopias WWS for me.

How is that Cali has produced so many classics then... Old Raspy, Speedway, Parabola, Narwhal, Black Tuesday, Old Viscosity etc etc

Speedway has coffee, Parabola is BA , Narwhal is non existant here in my neck of the woods( Los Angeles) , Black Tuesday is a 50 dollar bottle of almost 20% BA stout and Old Viscosity is hard to find( i rarely see this beer)

What i meant was that there aren't many world class RIS beers in California ( my area especially)that has/had the distro of Stone RIS. Only Old Raspy

    cheers

Ahh so purely unadulterated Imperials then??? I was going through the top rated list...I do think "world class" maybe a high bar for us but I see beers like Serpents Stout, Karl Strauss Wreck Alley, Societe The Butcher, Mission Dark Seas, Rip Current Rescue Buoy and such...maybe see less of Class V from Kern and others these days idk. One thing Stone did some good with is the distro & I do agree that Stone should have never pulled IRS from the lineup!

I thought the coconut was mild and this was plenty hoppy.

2015 Pugachev's Cobra. An amazing BA stout. The maple is subtle. Bourbon, chocolate, roasted malts, black licorice, and sticky toffee.

    wow

i see those beers out here but i wouldnt touch them now cuz IMO they age horribly.

Barrel Roll Series was so good . Did they discontinue it? H24 seems to have fallen offf the planet

I am not sure how many of the H24 beers age well, but this is one that does. I had a 2013 last year and it was fantastic. That said, some versions are up around 16% so that probably helps. I have tried contacting H24 a few times to ask if they will release PC again, but they won't give me a straight answer. Pugafest was always awesome. They have changed a lot over the past few years, which is disappointing.
