I'm a top 250 stickler and wanted folks opinion on this.

Cycle DBR is listed and in the description it is a non adjunct BA stout. That was the OG release. It seems that Cycle has released DBR a few times in the past few years and the recipe differs. Last year they marketed DBR (maybe draft only) but there were several adjuncts. This year they released 9 year, but marketed in under DBR on social media. There were also two versions of 9 year. One non adjunct and one with several adjuncts.

What's everyone's take on this? Do I hunt a 9 year and say I ticked DBR? Do I need to keep seeking out the OG bottle to have the appropriate tick? Or should DBR be retired?

I would recommend changing your tick list to the Beers of Fame. That’s the real list worth chasing.

I think the OG bottle is what you need here. I say it every time this gets brought up, but the Top 250 is worthless and you can add this post to the list of reasons. Cheers.

I probably will start on that list. Thanks for the push!

The problem with hunting down a beer that old is that what you're drinking tastes nothing like the beer people loved back then. Yeah, you can check a box and say you tried it, but you kinda didn't. It's the beer equivalent of Trevor Berbick beating Muhammad Ali.

If there is implication from the brewery the recipe changed, then it should be it's own listing.

FWIW, this is why Side Project's Beer:Barrel:Time gets annual listings on this site (something that is otherwise not allowed). Reasoning in the past from mods / site owners is that Side Project markets BBT as a distinct batch every release. Since the above logic applies to BBT, it should apply to other listings as well.

Can you please elaborate on why the Top 250 is useless?

Take this post for example. There’s a beer on the list that is hard to find, currently being brewed to different specifications than the original under the same or similar name. Couple that with what @Domingo stated; the fact that if you do find the original beer it’s going to be dated to a point where what you’re drinking isn’t going to be the same beer that garnered the high ratings and actually put it on the list to begin with. Those reasons alone are enough for me to discard it but hey, if someone wants to tick beers from the list that’s their prerogative and I take nothing away from their quest. Cheers.

This sounds similar to what happened to A Deal with the Devil. In that case the original was retired. Sounds like this one should be too.
