Yup I asked about the empty can while sipping on that delicious Boss VSOJ.

My rankings for the evening: DBVSOR - apple brandy and DBVSOR Lux were tied for first. Boss Jacket (2019) was second (third) and DBVSODM was a distant 4th. Still great, but easily my least favorite of the evening.

my takeaway? Best lineup of draft only variants this season *and* Rev needs to do more apple brandy barrel aged beers.

I completely agree on being underwhelmed today. Hate to say it but that was the worst round of variants I think they have done. The Lux and Apple Brandy were way too sweet for me. The only one I enjoyed was the DB VSODM but I still didn't love it and thought that was sweet too. Rare miss for Rev!

One of the best things to me about Deep Woods is the blending, so I don't feel concerned with specific barrels. By the same token, I do feel that the barrel expressions are usually fantastic and the barleywines/ryewines always give me an Old Fashioned vibe (sweetened spirit). I'd love to see explorations if barrels and cocktails, especially through blending different spirit barrels to a final product.

Otherwise, keep doing what you're doing. A little new here and there, bringing back rotational items, and swapping in VSO or DB versions of things has kept it feeling fresh to me.

Over the years I’ve come to find usually I enjoy the actual releases more than the draft variants. There have been a few exceptions, Sanctuary #8 comes to mind. But overall they sometimes feel a bit rough to me…maybe just being a single barrel, no blending, etc. I dunno.

Related to the ask by some of less time between releases, I would prefer smaller (volume) on some if it meant more frequent brewery-only batches. Like if instead of a big can release of the summer barleywines, that could be 6 different barleywines on draft from March to October.

    Basically just more BA barleywine.

Wow. Guess the warning about Cafe Deth 2022 going out of stock for pickup at the Taproom wasn't just smoke! Out of stock. I certainly FOMO'd into a 4th pack when I was there on Friday.

I really enjoyed the Eighteener variant. One of the best variants of the season imo. Boss Jacket is always a pleasure to revisit. Apple brandy was pretty decent but wouldn't need more. I skipped DBVSODM since I've got cans of VSODM. And Rev was rocking Pantera in my short time there. So, all in all, I enjoyed this release perfectly fine and on to the next.

Yea it was out of stock Friday night when I was up there. They had some 4-packs in the cooler, but. was told they were just for fulfilling orders already placed.

I thought both DBVSOR Lux and DBVSOR Apple Brandy were both very good but also very sweet which they were advertised as being. I am glad I had them and really appreciate how sweet components gets blended with the dry components.
The Boss Jacket was so good.
DBVODM was meh. I quite liked VSODM.
Ryeway and Straight Jacket were both excellent as always.

That's the best part - it's one of the most affordable barrel aged barleywines out there!
