    @Beer_Economicus

    I opened my other bottle of 2013 Bourbon County Barleywine tonight and it's a completely different animal. There are some hints of raisin and really nice chocolate notes to go along with the booze and caramel. If I knew they'd taste like this I'd look for more, this is quite a treat. @JJ_17 mentioned bottle variation, spot on sir.

    BMBCLT - Sometimes I feel the way you do, but you seem to put a LOT of faith in the idea that beer styles are black and white, definitive, or "actually" something very specific. :slight_smile:

    Spooky. I just placed an order with Jackie O's this morning, I have some of these coming. I feel very lucky that they deliver to Pennsylvania.

    Is there any other brewery that consistently has such a wide variety of high quality barleywine available at all times? I think they have 10 for sale online right now. Anyone even close to that number?

    ...and for very reasonable prices. I can't think of any. Jackie O's is one of my favorite breweries. Sucks they don't ship and don't distribute in SC.

    Birders sometimes do a "big year", sparing no expense and going to absurd lengths to spot as many birds as possible. A few months into the year I was feeling silly about how much I was spending on barleywine. Slow down? No, I decided to say what the hell and call this my big year. For barleywine. I will cut way down in 2023, but I'll do all I can do in '22.

    I'm almost reluctant to share this, because it is just so absolutely absurd, but the next one will be my 100th new to me barleywine of the year. Yikes. Top 3 so far, Double Double Cask, VSOJ, and Bourbon County 2 year aged.

    If it makes you feel any better, that's not absurd at all. It's freaking awesome! :slight_smile:

    Cheers to another hundred in 2023! :grin:

    Amazing stuff! I’ll count mine soon, but I’m probably less than half of that. Maybe I’ll shoot for that next year!

    Finally getting into this box set!! Opened up the Cognac / Woodford DO Double Oaked, Scotch, and Rum barrel variants tonight. All holding up exceptionally well. Whiskey-soaked raisin, warming booze, tannic oak. Very cool to identify the subtle differences among the three. Looking forward to getting into the rest sometime down the road!

    @Resistance88 these are for you, buddy :wink: I DO drink what I get!

    Evening all - Im enjoying a New Image Brewing 9505. Its a barrel aged wood finished barleywine that won a silver medal at FOBAB 2022 in the barleywine category.

    [IMG]

    Pours a dark brown-black color. Completely opaque. No head whatsoever. Aroma has notes of maple, brown sugar, cinnamon, fresh cut wood, vanilla, and some bourbon. Really interesting aroma - I would almost guess there was added cinnamon, but I can't find anything saying thats the case.

    Taste follows the nose with notes of oak, bourbon, vanilla, cinnamon, maple, brown sugar, spices, and some dark fruit notes. Its hot, a bit spicy and warming. The barrel is well integrated. I am getting some definite cinnamon on the flavor profile - again, they must have added it to this beer. that being said, it works, and it is quite good. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, but pretty hot. Mild carbonation.

    Overall it's a nice barleywine. I enjoyed it.

    look: 3.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4 = 4.13 (rDev -2.6%)
