It’s just a trial run for the next barrel blend for the OG

They could argue the cost of keeping track of which barrels were used for a specific batch, and printing it on a card. Probably adds 50 cents. And maybe a buck for the fancy box that you know people will be selling on Ebay for $15+.

After reading these comments and seeing the pricing, this might be the first year I’m not going out early to catch any GI BCBS/W bottles. I’ll trade for 2017 BWs all day.

Can't get excited. Over priced and over hyped. I will pick up a bottle or 2 of the original/basic if I see it at a good price. The others ain't gonna do it wouldn't be prudent.

Even Fremont gives you a bomber for under $40. They do sweet English BWs. I’d take B5Ks, too. B6Ks were too sweet for me. That’s saying something.

I can attest to those prices being accurate for the coffee and sir Isaac variants, at least in my neck of the woods.

Had my black ops fix this year, for way less $ so I’m good for now, and honestly I’d rather spend my money on more sixers of the SA chocolate bock.

I was excited for the return of barleywine. But at $40? I'll go have a draft pour of regular and ignore all the bottles.

I know that everyone is pretty indignant over the price of BW - as well you should be, but I think it's easy to forget this isn't the BW of the past. This isn't just a regular BW @ $17 (old pricing). This is a mostly DB BW clocking it at 17% that was aged in a very specific type of wheater barrel, which tends to be a "sweet spot" for most people in terms of barrel types of BW/Stout. Somewhere around 4% of the ABV is coming from the spirit barrels - that's impressive. Also, that's not exactly out of line in terms of "normal" market pricing from other breweries for this type of beer, although it is some high.

If BW returned as a "regular" variant, I'm sure it would have been closer to $20. For this being something that much more special, I expected $35ish, which I think is fair based on the Birthday and weller bottles in 2020, and Blanton's from last year. -Plus, this is a BW, not a stout, which always seems to command a higher price.

The $40 price point is certainly obnoxious, but it's not $40 for just the regular old BW of 2016/2017.

Good post, this is priced at what the market will pay. I do think GI should have played up the double barrel aspect of this to help justify the cost. I can't find any info directly from them that mentions it. I paid a little over retail and have no regrets, it's a great beer. If I saw one on the shelf I'd have to buy another.

Hearing lots of good things about the OG this year. Having an inner struggle if I should buy the 30th or skip it for several OG knowing it will probably be the same experience

I know a couple people that work(ed) in chain grocery stores in Ohio. They get moved from department to department all the time. I agree that they should know, but part of it is just the nature of the job.

Been looking for this and nothing around. Last year I saw 4 packs and grabbed one, $17.99. This year Expedition is a tough find and the prices I have seen were $20.99 and $22. I did not buy any.

    Enjoy

This will be my first year since 2017 that I wont buy any BCBS on Black Friday. And its nothing against them. I enjoy the original every year, and usually get 3-5 so I can stash a couple. Usually also get a couple variants each year that sound interesting. But this year, it's just not worth it. The OG will be $15 after tax and the standard variants $25 each. I went instead and got a 4 pack of Revolution Deth's Tar for $25 and Cafe Deth for $35. I don't feel like I'm missing out.

Just got word that my normal hunting ground will have every variant (besides prop). There's hope to score the barleywine!

I just got back from enjoying some BCBS beers at a local craft beer bar (Capone's in Norristown, PA). A had two small sifters (5.5 ounces) of Sir Issac and Coffee and I really enjoyed drinking those two beers! And I had a Pliny the Elder while eating a Philly Cheesesteak. Yum! :yum:

    Cheers!

P.S. And two fellows next to me had the Biscotti version and were not fans of their beers, take that FWIW.
