Survived the drizzle. Pregamed at portillo’s. Disappointing, beef bread size 1/4 smaller and little beef inserted. Don’t go here much anymore, but close by.



Hoping this goes much better.

Revolution Mean Gene 2022



Taproom Notes: $8 5 oz draft (I transferred into a taster glass), 10.3% ABV. Fresh draft pull.

Making a triumphant return after a years-long hiatus, this iteration of Mean Gene was aged in a young bourbon barrel for ten months, providing notes of burnt sugar, vanilla, coconut, and sizable boozy "umph" to our chocolatey friend Eugene.

Appearance: Pitch black pour with generous darker tan head, leaves a nice cover over the base. Leaves a fine razor thin lacing throughout. 4.5

Aroma: Let sit for 10 minutes before first sniff and taste. Getting a smooth strong bourbon aroma, tried but lacked success getting beyond this after trying for a few minutes. 3.75

Taste: Getting a much broader taste profile, a rich creamy malt dark / milk chocolate blend the star of the show. Bourbon, prevalent on the nose, takes a back seat but complements well. OK with the role reversal. 4.5

Mouthfeel: Leaning full body, very creamy, nominal carbonation. About 3 oz in and feeling the impact strength wise, the bourbon is well mask but ninja tough. Components well blended, the bourbon taste grows as this warms now 20 minutes in. Rich creamy milk chocolate aftertaste lingers joyously. 4.75

Overall: Really glad they brought this back after an eight year hiatus. Love the barrel treatment, the rich base flavor, and the well hidden wicked punch. Can this banger! 4.5
