I honestly can't taste pumpkin seeds. I'm sure the flavor is masked by coffee, vanilla, and all those spices. As far as the decaf coffee goes, it's probably for those who are sensitive to caffeine. And I'm almost certain that all the flavors are added to the finished product.

    Cheers! :beers:

I am fairly sensitive to caffeine since I am not a coffee drinker and I don't drink much soda. I swear I've felt it after drinking a few different coffee stouts that had extremely pungent coffee aroma/flavor (which I enjoy). I have speculated that perhaps some breweries might actually blend in cold brew coffee after the fermentation process is over?

Im sampling Mythical Czar Imperial Stout from Phantom Brewing in Hartford, Connecticut tonight. This is an 11.5% imperial stout with no additives, adjuncts etc. Had this one in my cellar for a few months, and tonight seems to be a good night to drink it.

    onto my review:

Sampling a 16 oz can at cellar temp and poured into a snifter. Date stamp only says "na zodrovya", not helpful with freshness.
My label also has 11.5% as ABV not the 9.9% listed here. I picked up the cans at the brewery in September of 2022 after a Hartford Athletic game.
The beer pours a jet black coffee color with no light passing through the glass. A brown slightly frothy yet dense head of 2.5 cm foams up. This foam fades to a sturdy surface layer and one large wispy island. This remains through sampling.
Aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, some coffee grounds and a bit of anice. No hop character nor booze hints on the nose. Pretty straight forward imp stout profile.
First sip reveals a medium to lighter body than expected, with very fine tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and doesnt coat or leave sticky residue on palate.
Flavor is roasted malts and dark chocolate, almost a charred wood note. Hints of molasses, but this is not a sweet beer profile. ABV is hidden and there isnt any real hop notes on the flavor profile either.
This is a bit of an old school, no additives imperial stout, that has good flavor and aroma. The body could be a little thicker, but in general, I like this one.
    4.13 in the BA DB

A 2021 bottle of Bell's Expedition. I've stopped keeping stouts for an extended period, but still had a few bottles from a six pack from last year in the cellar

Picked this up at my local grocer back at the beginning of 2022 as they had a few loose bottles available for the pick a six-pack thang. Iconic BBA stout IMHO.
    Cheers!

Its aiiiiight. Much like the NEIPAs, they just don’t make maple stouts as good as they do in the north east. Just my opinion (which happens to be fact)

Pretty damn good anniversary beer. One of the booziest feels I’ve had in a while. I had to add this one to the site.

Thanks brotha. Besides being a lil bruised and tiny cuts all over from the glass hitting my face and arms I'm good !

Just saw that threads close tomorrow at 6pm . Lookin forward to next years. Hopefully this one will start with a beer i like and the regulars in here will also keep on posting. Whether it is your daily drinker or a whale what matters is that you appreciate the beer for everything it stands for. Even if you didn't like it we gotta remember we are lucky to have the privilege of having so many choices available.
I plan to start the new one tomorrow at 6pmPCT/9pmEST right after this one goes. Don't know what i will be drinking or have anything lined, but im not worried about that at all.

For those who contribute a lot are you planning on something special to kick off your first post for the 2023 Impy thread?

As far as what i will prolly change for the 2023 Thread is Not post shelfies as much unless i am somwhere outside (wont post raspy, Speedway, expy, yeti photos from home) , but that doesn't mean i don't wanna keep seein yalls! Lookin at you and Privyet Argail!

Suggestions /Concerns go in the trash located at the exit:stuck_out_tongue:
