The other day I stopped by Forest & Main's new production brewery location (up the street on Main Street from the original brewpub location) to pick up some cans. They also have a new bar at the production brewery and I am happy to report that they have 3 beer engines at this location as well. I had a quick pint of the Stone Flower - described as a Pub Ale brewed with 100% Munich Malt. They had a sparkler on all three spigots. Which the other two beers were Fore & Aft and Suspended Thoughts, which you had noted they did not have sparkler on for when you visited their pub location. So perhaps they like to mix things up even for the same beers?
Dan briefly addresses sparklers here, while commenting on the divided approaches taken in England: North vs. South. Regardless, he prefers to use them “at all times,” for – in part – the creamy + cascade effect. Unless, the beer is over carbonated. That being said, they have no issues removing the attachment, if desired – Forest & Main Brewing Co. on Instagram: “Sparkler? What in the world is a sparkler? Watch and find out”
Makes me wonder if the Lurker Tap was a fad, or is still going strong. ANNNND, is it ridiculous to wonder what would happen if a sparkler was somehow attached to a Lurker?
I am going to take a risk here and think you misspelled Lukr. I can report that there are Lukr taps installed at many of my local brewery taprooms. Within the Lukr is a microscreen which can be seen below in the photo of a break-out of the faucet. It could be argued that this screen is akin to a sparkler since the presence of the microscreen encourages the production of foam during the pour. Na Zdravi
Thanks. I was being a bit silly with the Sparkler comment. Low and behold, that exploded picture is the best explanation of the Lurkr tap. So silliness paid dividends today. and I’ll still never confess to a misspelling. Especially now that we have auto correct to pin the blame on.
You do? I don't. The place I go with milk pours charges half the price of a regular pour, and their cask pours aren't that head-heavy.
Yes I would agree it was a little much considering their glasses don't have a fill line. Another brewery near me Troubles End Brewing uses half liter Willi Becher style glasses that have a "head space" fill line, which I appreciate so you know you're not getting skimped on the volume of beer. They also always have two beers served via their Beer Engines, so double bonus points.
I had that Wild East Standard Deviation via cask last week in New York City. Pic below. It was very tasty, but at 6% it was too strong for my tastes. I can enjoy cask barley wine, but for this particular cask beer I would prefer something weaker. I also found the flavor a bit too heavy handed. I still happily enjoyed it... but the bitter that I had before it from the other engine was more enjoyable for me.

I took note form the post made by jessix about MacLeod: “Just please don’t ask us why MacLeod is making hazies and sours!” If the price to continue making ‘traditional’ beers is also producing “hazies and sours” to bring in revenue, this seems to be a good business choice. Cheers!

Must be some strong secondary going on in that cask. I don't think I've ever seen a BB with that tall a head (sans sparkler).
