This came up briefly in the Benthic thread, and I posed the same question after @ChicagoJ said something similar about a Benthic 4-pack @$50. The reason I was so curious about the perplexity, was because he mentioned that he really enjoyed this beer, so why was he so willing to spend the same $/oz for a smaller portion, but not for a larger portion when the format (12oz cans) isn't changing in either scenario.

It's a bit different here. In my case, I don't really like Rye BA, so that's why I want the 2-packs over the 4-packs. I'm not sure I'll like it. I'd rather not spend $60 on something I'm sure that I'll enjoy. So, it's not the cost itself that is the factor, it's the cost given the fact that it is a new beer that I haven't had, nor has anyone else, so I don't even have a reference point to know if I'll like it. ...Beyond other Rye BA beers.

 

I recall Pulpit Rock selling BA Rechoncho for $80 per 4 pack 375mL bottles back in December 2018.

Given the VSOJ hype and also proxies being allowed, I believe this DBVSOJ allotment will sell out in less than 10 minutes…. Assuming there are no technological difficulties with the website lol

 

The rev release was very quiet, and then suddenly it wasn’t!

A few thoughts here:

The 2-pack limit for DBVSOJ has me optimistic there’s a chance at grabbing some extra beyond my season ticket.

As previously mentioned, the season ticket turned out to be a good value (no surprise) at $30 under the cost of buying one of each 4 pack, not including the bonus vintage pack and reward points. I personally would have skipped coconut and vsodm if buying individually but the convenience of the pass is a no brainer.

In doing the math above, I realized that if buying one of each 4 pack at each release you’d spend either $95 or $100 each time. Including this last one. Rev has certainly earned my trust so while I’m not happy at the prospect of a $60 pack, I’m pretty confident the value is there. Even if it does seem silly to pay more than 2x the cost of another pack of straight jacket.

I know some of you wont be able to resist checking my math so here are the numbers:

$30 Lumberstruck
$30 Thundertaker
$40 Coconut Deth

$25 Deth’s Tar
$30 Cafe Deth
$40 Deth by Currants

$25 Straight Jacket
$30 Ryeway
$40 VSO Dark mode

$40 Boss Ryeway
$60 DBVSOJ

 

And if that were available in the 20 BBL tank it was brewed in, it would be a great value at $79,000 because it is consistent with the same price per oz....because everyone needs 79,000 ozs of beer if the per oz price is consistent.

 

I wish I would have bought 2 instead of 1.

 

At first I thought you were trolling, but I’ll bite. Weren’t VSOJ and VSOR $50 a 4 pack? Were you just as offended then and swore off purchasing any Rev products? Or is a $10 increase over 1-2 years, when the country saw historic inflation, the final straw?

 

Should cartons of eggs come in 6 packs now too?

 

I cannot. Did you buy either version of VSOJ? Those were $50 per 4 pack. I'm sure there was some angst about that price point when it was announced yet the beer sold out. Another $10 for a double barrel version doesn't seem like an unreasonable price to pay, but then again I am comfortable with spending $60 for this particular 4 pack of beer.

 

Let’s not get started on the increase in egg prices. SMH.

 

Benthic 4pks at Binny’s in Peoria were $54.99 + tax… and Benthic is aged like 9 months..

i don’t know for sure but i’ll take a guess that DO ADWTD 375mL bottle is $60 and that’s for one single (similar sized) bottle.

another (kind of weird) example of how fair the price is on this 4pk of extended-aged / double barrel-aged ale is: the Shared Parfait SINGLE 16oz cans are $20. if you’re not familiar, they’re a blend of BA IS and fresh IS, and a 4pk would cost you $80 + tax. i know it’s a larger can but it’s a fraction of the barrel-aging time / component.

not to put any ideas in anyone’s head but i’m guessing they could sell this for $70-$75 a 4pk and get away with it.

 

5 "pack" of waxed 12 ounce Voodoo Very Old bottles (in box with glass) was over $260 after tax/EB fees.

 

Just to fan the flames, being a La Coterie member I routinely pay $60 for 750's (25ish oz) and have bought $50 and $60 375's (12ish oz). 4 12oz cans of (assumedly) great DB Barleywine for $60 is a steal. LOL

 

we’ve obviously been desensitized due to SP’s outrageous pricing (because i feel like this is a steal too).

 

DUDE This really fucked my mind up. One day I go to buy eggs and they're $4.50. I'm like wait these are regular large eggs non organic. These were $1.69 a couple weeks ago. Then another couple weeks go by and they drop to $2.50, then after another couple weeks back up to over $3.00. Eggs are like goddamn bitcoin.

$60 for 4 packs is a threshold well above $50. Ever wonder why pricing for items/cars/house usually ends in 99 rather than a straight 00?

Sarcasm or do get your eggs from a chicken coop in your backyard? Google 6 pack egg cartons…been around for at least 20+ years.

So, to reference my post you quoted, “no, your aren’t aware of any other 4 packs being sold for $60.”

5 bottles is not a 4 pack…

 

It’s definitely real. Not being in LC helps though because I’m not forking over that cash for packages.
