I wish Michelob would go back to the old recipe it launched with when it was first bottled. That done right would sell well (and maintain the quality) as better lagers sell well. Don't dumb it down. Into the 1978-1984 era, the beer was excellent.

When we were drinking American beers in the early 70s, we did a taste test of Busch, Bud, and Michelob. We didn't see much difference among them. We also didn't see much difference between them and the other run of the mill AALs, either. We did have a few preferred beers, but they weren't in the AB lineup. Personal preferences among all similar beers. Gary Gillman gives a wider view of bottled Michelob in his well researched blog: https://www.beeretseq.com/michelob-over-time-final-part/

    From the linked article:

“I hope one day Anheuser-Busch InBev will re-issue the beer as originally brewed in 1896.”

I annually homebrew my reconstruction of the original Michelob of 1896. I wrote an article about this which was published in BYO magazine (September 2015 issue). I typically utilize Czech Saaz hops in brewing this beer but this year I decided to try Saaz hops which were grown in Poland (they label these hops as Lubelski). The bouquet provided by Lubelski hops is notably different from Czech Saaz hops; a terroir effect I reckon.

    Cheers!

    Not the all-malt, Saazer-hopped draught-only Michelob that pre-dated bottles?

We always drove our cars until they dropped. (My 60 Valiant was 23 years old when I drove the rusty hulk to the scrap yard.) In our old age and retirement, my wife and I are a two car household that is changing into a one-car-required family. We're hanging on to both cars in spite of the dealers' regular emails saying they "need" them. We now have a "backup" car, useful in the current environment -- possibly for us or our adult kids.

In my experience A-B does a great job of checking dates at retail. I really don't know how they date their beers these days. But, yes, generally I'm no fan.

Apple juice in a glass. Accurate, and the kiss of death for how any brewer would want his/her beer to be described.

I was shocked. A couple of weeks ago I was in a local liquor store that I hadn't been in, in a while. Not only did they have it, but they actually had it cold.

What was the date of those beers?

@nicholas2121 has an unopened Michelob bottle from the 1960s. Pic is on page 4 of WBAYDN #3728. Date code 16090CB88. Any help decoding is appreciated.

Yeah, that's an early 1960s bottle (Michelob was draught-only up until then) as noted over in that thread.

I just received from MoreBeer earlier today the ingredients to re-brew my 1896 Michelob beer.

    Cheers!

Not to nitpick, but I think it was "The Night Belongs to Michelob". And, "Weekends were made for Michelob". Seems like there was also a Michelob commercial with a Steve Winwood song. OK, I liked Michelob, and I watched too much TV.

    Yeah...

BUT, during the same time period, a buddy and I stopped into the Manhattan Brewery in NYC. Jack got his beer first and as I was about to order, he asked me where I wanted to sit (IIRC, the place had long tables like a German beer garden). "Umm..." I looked around, saw a table with just two people at it and said, "Ah, how 'bout that table with the Stevie Winwood-lookin' guy talking to the blonde woman..."

We sat and drank our beer, the couple seated next to me and at some point I said to Jack. "Hey, I think the Stevie Winwood-lookin' guy is Stevie Winwood."

Years later I was looking through some old Manhattan Brewery newsletters I'd received and found this small article:

So, while he was working for AB, he buying the good, local beer.

(Wonder what happened to that other dude they mentioned first - name sounds familiar...)

Well, with a little research on cable news, we can all see how the other dude has been doing. I went to a Winwood concert at Jones Beach a few years ago and that guy seemed to be in fine shape - covering Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith, up to his recent material.
