Listen, we don’t need to further belabor it, but you completely invented this. I removed the middle because whether the anecdotes are first, second, or third hand is irrelevant to the pretty extreme accusation you’re making in what I quoted. And again, I say this as someone that still likes Hill Farmstead, but that’s kinda wack.

I don’t think it’s asking too much to say it’s better to not be the “it’s all made up” guy.

Well, it looks like my rental is for a midsized SUV (probably not AWD? not a specific AWD option). If anyone thinks I'm making an absolute disaster trying to make it to HF in a "Nissan Rogue or Similar", let me know.

Maybe you weren't present when this all came out two years ago, but no, I did not. And before you ask me to quote something, a very large chunk of it was removed by mods, even though it was largely civil.

And don't you dare put words in my mouth. I never said anything about it "all" being made up. Who the hell do you think you are with that ridiculous level of self-righteousness? I believe women when they are brave enough to come forward with accusations of harassment or worse. These anecdotes did not originate from women, or frankly victims of anything.
Okay, then it's weird that you have that two year old article at the ready. You don't think so? Cool, I do.

Though my memory is foggy now, I was under the impression that the person who made the accusation to ratmagnet was an ex Hill employee. I daresay that such a relationship isn't always an amicable one, and you can extrapolate from that as you may. How many people have worked for or with Hill over the years yet no one has ever heard anything ill of it aside from these ratmagnet stories? Not before, and not since. But here you are digging up this old turd like you have some burning hot scoop.

And just stop with the conflating of Shaun with Jean, would you? Just because some "Vinepair" article put their name in the same sentence doesn't mean they're forever linked in mind, body and action. Like, do you not understand that, even a little?

If you personally view Shaun Hill as a jerk then you would probably consider me something far worse if you met me, because I don't tiptoe around people's feelings in person--I don't have the time or patience for that. What I've gathered from Shaun is that he's a softly spoken introvert that isn't gregariously social or boisterous. If someone must behave in such a manner for you to think kindly of them then good for you but you're the type of people I actively avoid in life. Everything I've gathered from your views on this seems personal, and completely devoid of any rational or reasonable thought. Perhaps you have some sort of trauma surrounding this topic more broadly, but to try to paint everyone that has the slightest accusation thrown at them over the course of their entire life with that brush isn't productive, especially when you have no substantive suggestions for what could or should be done about less than a handful of third person hearsay accusations no one else (when there were supposedly witnesses) has substantiated.

Hill addressed this back when it went viral. No one else has come forward to accuse or reveal anything deeper or more concerning, but you're acting like there's this wanton hellscape in northern Vermont that requires cleansing, and to label that as disingenuous would be an understatement.

I have been making regular trips to Hill for 6 or so years in a Mitsubishi Outlander and I have never had an issue. I have seen cars much smaller than mine make it through thick mud, deep ruts, heavy snow, and slippery ice. You’ll be fine in a midsize SUV. Just drive slow and intelligently if it gets messy and you’ll be great!

Been visiting Hill since basically they opened.

The only crime is Shaun’s hair and perma 5 o’clock shadow.

I also don’t think Phil Harmstead who was the first employee would still be there if it was such a toxic environment.

Pretty much all SUV's for rent in VT are AWD because that's what tourists want here in winter. Go slow, don't hit the brakes hard or corner fast. AWD gives excellent traction going forward, but can be 4WheelSlide when it comes to braking just like every vehicle in motion on a slippery surface. You'll be ok - just go easy!

Thanks everyone! I practically drive for a living, and am a very good driver when it comes to messy conditions (on and off pavement). Just wanted to be sure. I can’t imagine trying to explain why I wasn’t at a conference and had to pay for a wrecker to get me unstuck because I was on the way to HF. :sunglasses:

Possibly the worst time to be on BA. I hate this topic as much as I did back then, and I hate that I can't not respond. Self righteous people (you know who you are, and we do too) who knew as much about this situation as any of us ended up whining to mods to get the "wrong" types of posts deleted. And they never ever offered any sort of solution, just that "I heard Shaun did this so he's bad and Hill's bad and I'm good for pointing out the badness." So exhausting.

It's funny how that all went away once Art, Damon, etc. all got released, though.

A solution likely would have been Shaun saying he would permanently step away from day to day at Hill, then return about a year later to keep that ship chug chug chuggin!

    AHAHAHAHA

It's just frustrating when locals like myself and @Mgh2001 have to wake up at SEVEN A.M. to look at our PHONES in order buy just like, a beer??

Normally I wouldn't even BE on this thread cause I'm on the Casita thread cause I go there like EVERY WEEK.

I do understand the frustrations of the locals in that it’s damn near impossible for them to get a bottle of the limited release stuff from a brewery that is just a short drive away. They have the opportunity to try it on site without hassle which I guess is all one could really ask for. Setting aside an allotment each day for pickups saved for people with a Vermont ID would be a possible solution, but then again that definitely opens up for massive hoarding where someone could get their entire family to go with them to procure bottles.

There is no perfect way to do a beer release that makes everyone happy. I saw some shithead on Facebook sell a new bottle of Ann literally everyday over the past week or so which is such a dickhead thing to do.

I've had Anne. Is Ann vastly different? I understand that FOMO is a powerful currency, but the secondary on Ann is (IMO) pretty absurd. Not that I'm even trying, but if I were able to get a bottle at retail I wouldn't even consider opening it knowing that I can trade it to someone for $1k+ worth of bourbon.

I have no idea. Ann is the last of the "whalez" from Hill I've never had and I'd like to try it, so I'm one of the idiots up every morning F5ing the Toast site. If I do get one I'm drinking it (I know, I know, pat myself on the back much?) but I can understand why beer culture has turned this into the secondary diarrhea show it is now, and honestly I can't get mad at people flipping it. They got lucky and scored one (or their bots did, amirite?), they get to do what they wish, I suppose.

So there is Anna, Ann, and Anne. Anne was made with yellow raspberries and comes in a 12 ounce bottle. Was fortunate enough to have all 3, but I did not have Anna at the same time I had Anne and Ann. Would definitely be interesting trying Ann and Anna side by side.

Blind taste tests are the only true barometer of objective feelings when it comes to food and beer. Preconceived thoughts on hype beers knowing how hard they were to acquire/sell on secondary definitely skewers one’s ratings. I’ve been guilty of this as well.
