Ha! Just trying to be nice to the neighbours!

You've had better luck than me - I've been trying to convince the missus and kids to move to Queensland for years now, yet here you are living on the other side of the planet. Although maybe Queensland is another planet...

    Cheers!

Local brewery just made an Australian Sparking Ale, man that was delicious. Will put the details on their brew page soon. New favorite.

Wish I could find Coopers close by - no offerings anywhere within 150+ km.

    Cheers!

Kinda like the outback steakhouse and Foster's Lager, Australian Sparkling Ales are as rare as hen's teeth in Oz, with Coopers Red being the only one I'm aware of. I'm sure there are others, though, and Untappd and my fridge seem to be full of the category of Australian pale ales, but those are more citrusy and aroma-driven than the more yeasty, drier version that you get from Coopers. I am, however, going off memory about the Coopers beer, so don't @ if my recollection of the flavour profile is wrong!

    Cheers!

IIRC Fosters was bought out my AbInBev, right?

I still enjoy Fosters Lager as opposed to the green can one personally

Yep. From Wikipedia (which would never lie to me):

"in 2011, Foster's was acquired by SABMiller; the latter was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV in October 2016"

That Fosters green can is an international thing as far as I know - I've never seen one anywhere in Australia, or even seen it referred to in any Australian context.

    Cheers!

I'm imagining that the green can is most likely Fosters Special Bitter... which was certainly available in Australia 30 or so years ago. However I find it rare to see Fosters Lager now let alone the Special Bitter.

Do you mean the stronger, six percentish version they brewed for a little while in Oz? I only ever saw it in bottles, and it might have even had a green label from memory. I actually liked that and sought it out even back then as a maybe 20-year-old. But you're right, that one hasn't been brewed in Oz for nigh on 30 years now.

    Cheers!

You can get bother pretty easily even in supermarkets here. It's about the only "Australian" beer we see apart from the rare appearance now and again of Sheaf Stout.
I actually like the Special Bitter. Nice drink in the summer

It's so Australian none of us drink it!

Sheaf Stout is as rare as hen's teeth too. I've only ever drunk one.

    Cheers!

Unfortunately we pretty much only ever come across Foster in these parts, even those fairly typical Australian bars like Café Oz over in several Paris locations would have this as the main option.

I have some fond memories of hanging out in these, meeting up random strangers and chatting.

Met my share of Aussie blokes there, all good to me but past happy hours the place becomes quite loud and it becomes just harder to engage a conversation.

    Cheers!

Someone should try opening an outlet in Australia, to make all the tourists feel at home when they come here!

ps., that website is very broken, at least on my browser...

    Cheers!

When I saw it labeled as Special Bitter, it was 3.5% abv(or 2.5%) and was very drinkable. The one I see now is over 6%abv and not drinkable at all to me.

In the US, the Foster's sold here had long been brewed outside Australia - first by Molson (IIRC, that was all tied up with the confusing interconnection of Foster's [then-called Elder IXL] owned Carling-O'Keefe, Molson and Miller in the mid-1980s - mid-1990s) and later by MillerCoors (now Molson Coors), using the dba Oil Can Breweries , in their US breweries and that has continued to be the case, based on the agreement with the US Department of Justice which allowed the SABMiller take-over by ABInBev.

The "fine print" on US Foster's' labels:

That was not the case, of course, in the 1970s:

What do you think? Did that forklift driver drink beer or two after work, or what?
