So 2023 Rev should skip DW releases and then in 2024 have all the releases double barrel VS?

The taproom was busy but as laid back as any Saturday during this year’s releases when I left around 3.

Yeah I got lucky (again) on this one. Didn’t realize it was dropping today, then when I saw the notification titled “This Boss was Born to Run Out” I thought there’s like a 1% chance this is Boss Ryeway, then when I checked, lo and behold, Boss Ryeway.

Pretty surprised they didn’t do a 2 can limit like DBVSOJ which is why it sold out in 2 minutes rather than 5.

I too managed to snag Boss Ryeway as soon as I got the notification. Then saw it was gone after 30 seconds.

After having a full pour of DB VSOJ, I can safely say it's a very very good beer. That said, this may be a controversial opinion, but I think there's too much rye in it for me to say it's a truly exceptional beer. Not that I'm opposed to rye in beers, I just think it's a bit too overpowering in the final product.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about their other rye beers? For example, would you take Ryeway to heaven over SJ? Just asking since it seems by and large that those that are the most enthusiastic rev supporters also happen to be the people that so crave all the rye that Rev puts out that very few other breweries do (if any - to the quantity Rev does it?). So, if you’re a big rye fan from Rev, I’m pretty surprised, but if you aren’t then I’m not that surprised at all. Rye is a pretty sharp flavor, and in every rev beer I have had it has been pretty noticeable, and in general it seems like people either flat out love that or tend to push it aside, even if they appreciate how good of a beer it is.

Oh, this one I wrote off completely because I manage to ALWAYS schedule family stuff on these weekends before consulting the DW calendar (like some noob).

I'll be consoling myself with some DBVSOJ as soon as I get back in the city to pick up my cans.

this is the reason I put the releases in my calendar as soon as they’re released.

Cellar divorce hearings? Might end up like that famous internet story where 2 divorcees had to throw the Beanie Babies in a pile on the courtroom floor and the judge made them take turns picking.

I thought it was too sweet and the rye had a weird bite. Fun beer for a few ounces but I prefer regular VSOJ.

Too much rye. And then...too sweet.

This is why life is fun. Suum cuique!

I actually really dig, in general, the ryewine offerings that Rev puts out. For me, Ryeway is something I regularly purchase whereas I rarely seek out SJ.

I think what I generally really appreciate about Revolution is they can come up with unique concepts, and completely knock them out of the park. For example, I thought Lumberstruck was a very well executed concept. I also really liked VSOR when it came out, despite it having a strong rye presence.

Maybe it was my expectations but I went in expecting a medley of bourbon and rye notes, and the rye just overwhelmed everything a bit for me. Like I said, I still really liked the beer, but I didn't think it was exceptional because the balance between the two barrel components was a bit off for me.

After hearing about how busy things were at the taproom on Friday, decided to go early Saturday. Hearing the reviews from people & having missed out on securing cans it made sense to invest the time to try draft offerings. A lot of times the hype doesn’t meet expectations but this is one time I think it did. You can nitpick at the taste profile of DBVSOJ, but it’s well made and an extremely enjoyable experience. That said, the 2 Rioter’s variants were exceptional - they offered different flavor profiles, became more interesting as they warmed, the barrel character was well integrated on both.

I talked to one of the staff behind the bar. Thanks to Rev for holding back kegs to last the whole weekend.

2020 Cafe Deth just changed my life. How can the coffee flavor be so prominent 2 and half years later? Why did it take me so long to buy one of these beers? ISO this years deep woods cans. Can trade beer, $, or brown water. Cheers.

I live like 5 hours from Chicago so that’s not really in the cards. Thanks for your consideration though. Cheers.
