I mean, look. SP cares about people saying their beer tastes bad, and missing out on $$$. They have every right to both of those. Glad they care! But if it wasn't for the potential for bad reviews or loss of $ from secondary/resell, do you think they'd care if you took a bottle home that you only drank half of? No. Why would they? You already paid; it doesn't affect them at that point. Arguably, SP beers taste better day #2 than a bottle of wine on day #2 (in my experience).

No 0-hype brewery would give a shit (beyond legal concerns that everyone might have).

It's not like they think it can only be enjoyed if served by them at the perfect temperature. It's just about protecting their image (i.e. reviews) and not losing out on $ (i.e. secondary/resale). Remove those, and it really doesn't matter.

Awesome - I totally assumed that didn't resonate  So the Penguins play the Blues that day in St. Louis - as you remember my brother has a kid so we're going out Saturday morning and coming back Sunday night - basically we had companion passes on SW so we have half off flights and decided just to go slam through the cellar list at SP and Perennial and loop in the Pens game that weekend without getting him divorced.

Why do you keep on mentioning bottles and half consumed bottles? We’re talking about a vial being filled with beer that’s meant to be consumed on-site.

Are they cool with people filling outside containers and taking them to go? I’d imagine people doing this aren’t doing it in the open. They’re certainly not asking SP if they’re cool with it.

If SP isn’t cool with it, they’re not giving doggie bags with vials, then why would a person think it’s okay to do?

If I don’t make it down during stout week I’ll definitely keep this in mind and will be in touch. Thankfully my wife is super into this stuff too and is totally on board with spending Valentine’s Day in St Louis for stout week. Only hurdle is finding a babysitter during the work week. My sister’s husband recently quit his job because he got sick of it, so I’m hoping he doesn’t find a job before then . Luckily my sister is financially more well off than 99% of Pittsburgh so I can root for her husband to be unemployed lol.

If you guys have a few spare hours, I would suggest taking your nephew to City Musuem. Great place to spend a morning and I’m certain the kid would love it there.

A morning at City Museum is the best payment for an afternoon at Side Project. What an amazing place.

I really appreciate this - but nephew isn't going - the wife is just giving him a day and a half (beer) hall pass - we're going with two friends. Guaranteed they'll be traveling out there some day with us though - the little one is only 9 mos so maybe next year with the kiddos!

Are you really comparing a restaurant or winery corking a bottle of wine and likely putting it in a to go sleeve for you when you leave vs sneaking a bottle or pour of beer, likely to the bathroom or patio so that no employees can see, and pouring it into a small vial that you brought in yourself? Not to mention doing that multiple times on the same visit.

    Alright.

Why do y’all keep assuming someone has to take the bottle into the bathroom to fill a vial? Lol have you ever been to the cellar or brewery? It gets so packed w bodies in there, it would be so easy to just do it.

I know tons of people that bring champagne and wine stoppers in, throw them on the bottle and drop it into their backpack to take it home with them. Only reason I never have is bc I don’t want an open container in my vehicle ever.

honestly, I don’t give a shit. If SP wants to charge 75 a bottle for a beer you may not be able to finish in one setting, this is what they get to deal with VS selling 5oz pours you can finish by yourself and not have enough to even fill a vial.

If you’re not chugging OWK out of a bathroom vial are you really drinking OWK?

And stop using LOL if you’re an adult.

At the end of the day, this is a hobby we waste too much money on, and insulting people for their questionable decisions when they have no effect on you personally is unnecessary. With that being said, where is Coffee Shop Vibes.

I pretty much agree - I just can't be brought to the point where I care about people vial'ing (is that a word?) or corking a bottle and taking it with them. Similarly, I don't care enough about my friends / family to vial or cork a bottle and try to take it with me / try to get them a sample. I'd encourage them to travel with me and split a bottle so I don't end up solo doming D16 at the cellar on a Wednesday.

noticed that P3 recently made the switch to 12oz 2pks for their curvature series and was thinking that would be solid for CSV!

It’s not that you’d have to take it into the bathroom, it’s that you’d get to. It adds a level of authenticity to the whole process.

I agree here 100% I feel like I’m too old to get the 90% of references and need a Rosetta Stone to understand it. He’s pretty good about taking shit from people tho, and is a good sport about it, gotto give him that

I had grandiose dreams that the Revolution thread would eclipse the Side project Project thread in terms of activity and drama this year.

#vialgate shows me how wrong I was.
