The Honey Bucket aesthetic is a bold strategy.

pFriem just released their 2023 package beer calendar. You can see all the details over at New School Beer. Here are some major bullet points:
    • Two new year-round beers in sixpacks of 12-ounce cans: Lager and West Coast IPA (replaces Hazy IPA sixers starting October 2023)
    • The Lager appears to be their Helles Lager.
    • Lager will retail at $10.99, WCIPA will be $11.99.
    • Fresh Hop IPA in 16-ounce cans (September 2023)
pFriem Helles Lager in reasonably-priced sixers available everywhere year-round?

    OH. HELL. YEAH.

    • Ticket prices: $55 for General Admission, $80 for VIP
Found that on the eventbrite page. Doesn't sound horrible for the general price of the beers available...though you get 4 drink tickets included for general and 8 for VIP.

If it was unlimited pours for the general admission price, I would completely agree. However, $55 for 4 glasses (pour size unknown) of beer seems a bit high to me. On the other hand, if you're getting 12 ounce or 16 ounce pours of cantillon, then that's a better deal.

My guess is that the latter scenario is unlikely.

Yeah, I'm guessing 6-8oz pours, probably?

Agreed. Maybe I don't understand the cost of organizing and running a festival like this, but is the price tag really justified? I'm assuming the guest kegs are all donated and that most of the staff working the fest will be volunteers. Yeah, they have to rent the space and there's the electricity and porta potty rentals that have to be factored in. Probably some other expenses as well that I'm not thinking of. Even so, I'm still having a hard time figuring out the justification for the ticket price tag, given the limited beer pours. It makes the OBF, Hood River fresh hop fest and the PDX fresh hop fest seem incredibly generous by comparison.

All that aside, it sounds like a fun time and my hats off to de Garde on surviving COVID and celebrating 10 years of brewing success. Here's to another 10 years (at the very least!).

Not sure the kegs are donated, and if they aren't, some of those breweries aren't known for being geared toward the penny wise consumer. Some of those Side Project beers are in the neighborhood of $15/5oz pour at the source!

Could be. I don't know for certain of course, but the anniversary celebrations I've attended in the past, the beer was always donated by the various guest breweries. As you know, all the beer poured at the GABF and OBF (for example) is donated.

So it seemed reasonable to assume that the guest beer poured at the de Garde event will be donated as well.

But I could be completely wrong about that.

In case anyone cares Breakside turned the Wanderlust label into a mural on the new Beaverton location. I love that wolf label and now it’s 12 feet tall!

I get where @John_M is coming from.

To me, anniversary parties should be about celebrating the community of fans that keep a brewery in business. It annoys me when they're treated like a money grab instead of a chance to celebrate. I'm not saying a brewery should be dropping tens of thousands to host a bash, but when it feels like an attempt to maximize profits it's really off putting.

Agreed with what both you and @John_M have posted, but I really don't think this is a cash grab on their part. De Garde's pricing has always, always been fair, and in today's landscape, a downright steal - who else sells beer aged in barrels for 4 years at $20/750, let alone $20/375? Also, given their track record of hosting events, I read the price tag as indicative of what it's costing them rather than a money grab. The past few Zwanze days have been in the neighborhood of $50/ticket, while lots of other venues (with notable exceptions like Russian River) have charged between $75-100. Finally, their past few anniversaryparties have been what you describe - lower key, community celebrations- but I think a special milestone warrants a bigger bash.

Is that building part of Breakside Beaverton? (I thought it was just the patio and the pergola and the building that looks like a shipping container. But if I'm wrong, I have no problem with that.)

I'm really not sure. I thought the patio/pergola/shipping container area was going to be for food carts and the existing building for the Breakside portion, but I don't know.

I went back and looked at the New School article from a couple weeks ago:

The Breakside Beaverton plan has been buried in delays since it was first announced, while other taprooms have opened in the meantime in existing for lease spaces, the Breakside location called for serious construction and a rezoning of the brick-and-mortar portion which was formerly a furniture store. Finally at long last most of the permitting is finished and demo is underway with the food truck pod and a storage container bar hoping to be open before summer, followed by the indoor tavern space that was originally intended to be a full restaurant but now will rely on the food trucks such as Farmer & the Beast to keep drinkers fed.

    (Emphasis mine.)

Heh. I'd gotten so wound up in the prospect of the place actually opening that I lost sight of the big picture.

This exactly nails my reaction as well. I'm not certain that's what's going on in this case (@DefenCorps made a number of excellent points regarding de Garde pricing and past practices), but the 4 pours at the $55 price point is a bit startling (and put me in mind of a certain fresh hop festival in Yakima that has morphed into a complete cash grab.).
