Well, there are some new beers in the cellar as well.

Spoiler alert: tomorrow in NBW I will be discussing a brand new beer from Victory: Cold Front Cold IPA. Not only a brand new beer from Victory but also the 'new' beer style of Cold IPA.

Another beer I just recently purchased as part of a mix-a-six is Samuel Smiths Winter Welcome Ale. I have never had this beer before and I thought it would be a good beer to discuss in the NBW thread. Do you consider this beer to be a "classic"?

    Cheers!

Altbiers are unfortunately a beer style you don't see very often. Tired Hands has one available at the moment (a rotating beer style for them).

I recently homebrewed an Altbier (Sticke version) that is lagering right now.

    Cheers!

Whats funny is that Allagash White seems to be a lot easier to find on draft than Long Trail Ale is. At least from personal experiences. I found Allagash White on tap at random bars/restaurants in RI but Long Trail Ale not so much.

IMO, Allagash White is the best Witbier out there.

My bottle has a best by date of 06/2023. So I am hopefully assuming it's a six month out shelf life. I really hope it's not more then that.

I would put Harpoon IPA in the classics category. And as others have said, most definitely Celebration

Yeah I mentioned Harpoon IPA as a classic in the other thread.

And hopefully that year is 2023? It is indeed a tasty beer:

    "Overall:

This beer is very enjoyable to drink. The balance of toasty-bready malt and spicy hops is quite appealing!! Germans have a good term to describe this beer which is süffig (which roughly translates to drinkable)."

From high school... classic means "withstands the test of time". Whether for bad or good... I don't know. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale = classic... sorry, just first one that popped into my head.

Good call. I was thinking more about Brother Thelonious and Scrimshaw Pils. Old Rasputin is definitely a classic.

Yes, Celebration is an MVP, Hall of Fame, Mt Rushmore caliber classic. I’d cringe at calling it an “oldie but goodie.”

I think there’s an argument to be made that Harpoon is a classic, but I’d personally put it in the oldie but goodie category. I appreciate it, enjoy it enough, but there are lots of others in the style I’d go to first (except maybe in certain terminals of Logan). :beers:

Big, big fan of this beer. In fact, will be at the North Coast brewpub on Sunday. They typically have red seal on tap, cask and nitro. I'm not a fan of this beer on nitro, but it's lovely on cask.

Great thread idea by the way...

There are some Belgian versions that I prefer. But when talking about domestic witbiers, I really can't argue with you.

It really is. The pub used to be part of the original brewery, until NC got a bit too big for their britches. They now have a much larger brewing facility right across the street.

Unfortunately, I've never figured out how to post pictures with my current phone or I'd gladly upload some on Sunday. However, I'll happily post my impressions. And yes... it's always been a very cool place to visit. Have been going there for over 30 years now.

Hoegaarden was in fact one of the beers I was thinking of. Not a fan?

It's pretty good for a mass produced Witbier. The score on here is 85.
