I drink a ton of Tree House but damn, their beers fall off fast than pretty much any other spot out there.

By contrast, it’s crazy how well Monkish holds up. Their beers can be months old and still taste amazing. Don’t know if it’s just me who thinks this but having drank a lot of these hazies over the years I still think this holds true for both spots.

Haven't had Monkish but Tree House has always held up extremely well for me.

    To each their own.

Also Big Bear is the shit. It honestly may as well be a stout though.

My hot take is that I thought BT's was average at best. It's fine, but nothing to write home about.

The New England BBQ scene is lousy. Smoke Shop in Cambridge (next to CBC) is the place I always thought was the best, but I was there last week and it was "meh." Seems like something we should be able to do better by now.

I will say this, though. Going to BT's with Tree House beers was always fun, but the Texans have it a little bit better doing Lone Star Lagers to pair with BBQ. Light beers pair way better with piles of meat.

(Shout out to @Sheppard who asked about what Boston cuisine is. Good question. I maintain it's a street meat scene. Before and after ball games, after a drunken night out. Street meat from the sausage cart. That is what defines us.)

I'll fall on the grenade and admit to NIMBY thinking here and say that I wouldn't want Tree House in my town. I understand that it may bring lots of tax dollars to the town, but I am not a local politician, I'm a resident. I remember how I drove back in the day when I went to Monson. I try to be more considerate now, but there are plenty of others who are like how I was back then, just trying to get in and out as JBrews said. Not a care for the residents in mind. I wouldn't want all of that congestion. It would not be worth the small benefit of having easy access to Tree House.

Having been to Tree House Tewksbury a couple of times now to pick up cans, I hope there are traffic plans in the works. I think Tree House sounds like they are taking a very considerate approach (from reading the link posted) to stay in the good graces of the locals. I just worry that the increased road traffic will be out of control on a pretty busy street as is. It's not right off the highway either, there's some driving involved.

Anyway, when I visit, I'm going to try and be more considerate since Tewksbury is a very good thing and I don't want to mess with that.
The reason I am trying to get into BBQing is because there isn't really great BBQ here. There are places that kind of scratch the itch, but don't really. I haven't been to Big Fatty's. It was unfortunately closed when we went to River Roost.

Nobody replied BBQ to that tweet by the way.

Anthony's across the street has the best meatball sub in a 10-mile radius*

I'm sure compared to "real" places down south, it's pretty average/mediocre. It's kind of like Pizza in the north east. You're always within 10 miles of really good pizza, but if you travel around the country, it's pretty lousy.

I actually had to re-evaluate BTs the last time I went. I thought it was head and shoulders better than the first two or three times I've been there. Taino's in Middletown (CT) has some pretty amazing BBQ for the area.

I haven't been in forever and it's a heart attack on a plate, but BT's brisket reuben and a fresh can of Green is still one of my favorite meals.

We used to go there all the time in college. It's been years. I remember the wings being excellent, but I was also 18-22 years old (ahem, I mean, 21+ all four years).

When I was in college, back in the Neolithic, legal age was 18. In fact, I turned 18 the year Massachusetts raised the drinking age, so I was grandfathered in during the four years they stepped it up to 21. All of which goes some ways toward explaining how I spent 7 years in college without ever actually getting a degree.

This thread is going further and further off-topic. I’m going to start a ‘Best BBQ and Taplist’ thread in the Northeast Forum.

    Big Bear Coffee [2-Pack]
(Imperial Brown Ale, 8.8% ABV, 16oz) Big Bear – Coffee is our imperial brown ale conditioned on select core roasted and cold-brewed by Tree House Coffee Roastery Specifically to our specifications. It pours an attractive dark brown into the glass and carries flavors and aromas of caramelly coffee, dark chocolate, figs, and brown bread with a dense and warming body. It is a beautiful beer—Enjoy!

so you drove like an asshole in the past and you think that is somehow a trait associated with TH visitors?

this just seems to me like an admission that you used to be an AH—not a coherent argument that TH is a net negative for a town

All the time with my Dangerous Nights crew, rolling through Tree House. Now I’m just worried if my newborn daughter knows I was a real piece of shit.
