Individual preference doesn't make anything underrated or overrated, even though I've used those terms before describing beers. I guess its cathartic a little bit to just list some things you think are overrated, so fair enough.

I do find threads like this a bit meaningless though. These threads pop up every once in a while, and it always ends up with just a list of beers with any amount of popularity on this site. Sam Calagione basically said the same in a similar thread many years ago, and I obviously agree with that.

I have no problems saying this... especially for the price... most of the Bourbon County variants

I'm not sure I've ever had a really hyped beer that lived up to it. Even BCBS or King Sue or Hopslam or anything back in the day.

It's always good, but my life was largely the same afterwards

I can't disagree on Pliny - I had some a ways back. I know (knew at the time even) that it needed to be fresh, so I checked - they were one and two weeks old.
    |While it was an excellent beer, and I wouldn't turn it down if I was offerred, it wasn't the "angels singing" experience I was expecting.
I do think Heady Topper is excellent as well - I don't know about overrated. But I prefer their Focal Banger.

Which beers provide that for you?

    Cheers!

Well, for those prices you should just buy Belgians. That's what I do, but that is taste driven, not price driven in my case.

Any Bourbon County variants with "natural flavorings" mentioned in the description are EXTREMELY overrated in my opinion...they stopped making good variants, for the most part, after 2014.

Did you taste last year’s Bourbon County Brand Sir Isaac's Stout?

    Cheers!

No sir. This was the year I stopped even trying "natural flavor" variants, except for Proprietor's (which I hated due to it's artificial, syrup-y characteristics).

That and Tank 7 are the only Boulevard beers I buy. I do miss Rye-on-Rye-on-Rye though.

Spacer Camper is the 'go to' if it's the draft list is weak at a restaurant. It's nothing special, just something solid and local. Every region / state seems to have their own option in this category.

I have BA Abraxas to finally try, and I think I'll toss it into my ten year vertical of Abraxas (with the release at the end of this year.) Not expecting much out of it though. Abraxas is solid, with its current hype matching its quality.

I haven't tried KBBS, but can say I have been woefully disappointed in Mornin' Delight on the occasions I tried it. The last time, it was my third pick of the three coffee stouts I was drinking. It was just so sticky and cloyingly sweet. I've had better drinks from Starbuck's (and I'm generally not a fan of their flavor added coffees.)

I disagree with you completely on Heady Topper. I'm 70, been all over the world courtesy of the United States Navy ( and your tax dollars). Had probably in excess of 1,000 beers. Heady Topper is the best beer I ever had. Bet you wouldn't turn it down. HA

I had the Sir Isaac's Stout twice: once on draft and the second time a shared bottle with a buddy. I was a fan of this variant.

    Cheers!

I had a Kane ANTEAD that was underwhelming. I wouldn’t even put it in the same class as BCBS, which is one to which I normally see it compared.

This is a tough one for me because there are quite a few styles that I have sort of drifted away from due to burnout and I have a feeling if I started naming stuff off, that bias would affect my list...

    That being said...

Bearded Iris Homestyle.... the most iconic BI beer they put out and their flagship... I just don't get it?

Another Maine Lunch vote here... I liked the beer the first time I had it but I've tried it multiple times since and... I always feel underwhelmed after? I've never had Dinner but I'd try it if I had the chance. I pass on Lunch when I do come across it now...

    Dark Lord.... DIABETES....

Came here to say I think that in general New Glarus is overrated. I've had 4-5 of their brews and while everything was solid, I don't think they are deserving of the hype they get. I think the whole "Wisconsin Only" schtick adds to the mystique and hype ...
