    I can see the direction and it makes sense. One suggestion would be a metric for rewarding at least (×) beers in (×) styles. Right now it's possible to throw down a quick tick of 99 styles and really only review one or two styles regularly. Rewarding 25 styles with at least 10 reviews or 50 styles with at least 20 reviews or 100 styles with 5 reviews adds to the depth and diversity of the sight. In my opinion obviously...
    Makes me no difference really as I reviewed 4 beers this weekend for my own curiosity and without the reinforcement of points. Carry on all

    Can you get rid of karma?

    Just put up rankings of where people stand in number of beers, number of brewers, likes, most beers from each individual state, individual countries, etc. Cheers!

    What is it you dislike about the karma? I’m not sure what the latest version will look like but the iteration rolled at last week essentially took the “hidden karma” aspect away from it and just attached points to specific contributions. I understand there needs to be something to encourage contributions to the site, no matter how trivial.

    I don’t dislike it, just dislike how people get so bent out of shape about it. But you’re right about having karma as an incentive.

    I agree. Some folks are acting pretty corny about it. In reality though, that just proves that the points are doing what they were intended to do. The more people who “want” these points, the better off the site becomes because these folks are obviously motivated to continue contributing in meaningful ways. Cheers.

    After doing this for 27 years, I've found that in general:
    1. People take pride and place value in their contributions.
    2. People don't like change.
    3. People expressing how they feel about all of this shows me that they care and that making improvements to the system is the right direction.
    4. Even the biggest critics of change can offer valuable feedback.
    5. You'll never make everyone happy, but you can try to do what's best for the greater community and its growth vs. the vocal minority who typically want things to stay the same.
