Micheal, I have never had the pleasure of drinking Captains Daughter but I gave you a like since that beer looks so good in that great glass!

    Cheers!

Bridgeport Blue Heron also got a fair share of fridge space.

Thanks so much for it, Jack! It's still heavily used and looks no worse for wear.

The beer or the breweries? I make a point to buy them both often and love them! I find they haven't changed much over the years. I really also enjoy the barrel aged versions of both (not so much some of the Yeti variations which are getting too whacky and served in big cans.)

Captain's Daughter is on draft at lot of places here. Even at local chain restaurants.

Deschutes Black Butte Porter casts a long shadow (for good reason), but I feel like the under-appreciated classic in their lineup is Obsidian Stout. It’s every bit as polished as a stout as Black Butte is as a Porter or Mirror Pond an English Pale Ale and has been around as long, but doesn’t get the same love.

A classic! Super smooth, with a perfect balance of sweetness and hops.

I am assuming this qualifies. I only had it for the first time about a year back, but I’m guessing it’s been around a decade or more. This was lurking at the back of the fridge. A really nice Helles. Cheers!

Agree its one of the best low gravity stouts I can think of!

I would call this a classic, but correct me if I'm wrong. It looks like it was first brewed in 2006. Brother Thelonious from North Coast. A Belgian style abbey ale. From the brewery:

“From our sponsorships of numerous Jazz festivals around the country to the Sequoia Room, our Jazz venue in Fort Bragg, CA, North Coast Brewing was built on a collective admiration of and commitment to Jazz music and Jazz education. Brother Thelonious is a product of that passion, and honors Thelonious Monk’s legacy and his immense impact on the Jazz community.”

Haven't had one of these in many years. Poured at fridge temp. Poured aggressively, but I could only get a half inch of head. Very different from a typical Belgian dark ale! The nose is really nice. Fully of toffee, honey, bread, and red grapes. The taste is quite fruity, with a ton of malts that explode after a second in the mouth. Grapes, plums, figs, slight hops, leather, toffee, biscuits, creamy, and a hint of cinnamon. Very smooth and enjoyable.

I'd say NC brewing's entire old school lineup is classics. Old Rasputin, Scrimshaw, Old No.38, Red Seal, Brother Thelonius, Pranqster. All absolute classics

Too bad we can no longer enjoy Sam Adams Boston Lager, as they have apparently decided to mutate and dumb down the one perfect beer out there- the one that was good enough to not only create the success of the company, but create an entire generation of craft beer brewers to follow. The reward for the perfect original beer that created their entire company? Why, of course, change the original completely! It is unrecognizable now~ bad metallic aftertaste.

You have expressed similar thoughts in an other thread.

I think that Boston Beer Company did a great job with the Remastered Boston Lager. For some reason your personal palate has a differing response.

    Cheers!

I had a couple Canadian (or more appropriately, Ontario) classics the past couple days.

Yesterday I had a can of Creemore Springs Premium Lager. This is the beer Creemore released back in 1987 when they first opened. In 2005 the brewery was purchased by Molson. They continued to make the beer at the facility in Creemore. I last had this beer about a year ago and I’ve had it periodically over the years. I’ve always felt it has remained pretty much the same over time. It’s a little on the sweet side for me, but otherwise a serviceable lager.

This evening I had a can of Lone Pine IPA from Sawdust City. This beer has been available from the brewery since around the time it opened back in 2011. It was one of the first piney, bitter ‘west coast’ IPAs available here and was, to my mind, one of the better ones of that era. I drank this fairly regularly back in ‘14, ‘15, and have only had it a few times in recent years. Tonight’s can was like the last few I’ve had, the piney, citrus flavour and bitter finish are toned down from what I enjoyed a decade or so ago. Still enjoyable though, and still one of the better WCIPAs regularly available locally.

    Cheers!

Throwback Thursday...the spirit of the Adirondacks.

The brewery where Saranac is brewed has been around since 1888...the Saranac brand was introduced in 1985 and included the following beer with a different name though, I believe...they recently revived several beers including their old labels, which I always thought were amazing…

This beer is the only one still brewed regularly from this variety pack, to my knowledge, but with a new label... unfortunately this beer no longer makes it to this part of NJ but it did finally return in the form of this variety pack, a classic and very early craft beer from the Northeast. From their website... "the first ever Saranac beer and a favorite among some of our consumers. It was also our 1st ever beer to win gold at GABF in 1991"

Saranac - Adirondack Lager (amber lager 5.5%)

Crystal clear and medium amber in color; moderate malty sweet on the nose, lightly toasted in nature, somewhat spicy hop notes…taste follows similarly with the toasted qualities more noticeable, little bit of hops on the finish; mildly grassy with a little pepperness; as it warms there is just a touch of fruitiness to it. Light body, moderately dry, great creamy carbonation, a little bit of malt lingers on the finish, very low bitterness.

It’s been a few years since I’ve had this but I can say that I still thoroughly enjoy it. I’m sure this beer’s significance to me slightly sways me here but I’ll stand by that it’s a well made and tasty lager.

    Have a great night everyone!

    —————

Funny throwback side story…the year was 2010, a guy on phish lot was selling a shirt I really loved and I didn’t have enough cash for it. I gave him half the cash and a few Adirondack Lagers to make up the difference…:beers: @cavedave
