Prior to the present barrel-gate imbroglio, there had been nearly 7 pages of uncharacteristically civil and largely uninteresting discourse. I had become emotionally disengaged and was about to stop following the thread. A sincere thank you to all parties for giving me something to do that isn't actual work.

Long time, no post. Is it ever possible to get a taste straight from the barrel?

Ok to *maybe* straighten out any confusion (I haven't read much above), my wife and I walked in at 11:30am this morning. The fellow doing the wristbands told us they were doing barrel aged stout samples at the side of the "classic styles" bar.

We were told by the gentleman who sounded like he worked directly with the barrels that our samples poured from a pitcher would be uncarbonated and at room temp, before we started tasting. The samples were ID'd as #316, which seemed more of a bourbon bomb, sweet and viscous, and #308 which was more earthy on the finish and had more of a wine feel. He encouraged us to blend our last ounce with each other and it tasted great.

As we were doing our tasting he refilled the pitchers direct from the barrels in front of us. He hoped these would be used in a blend at a future time but conceded the barrels could just be dumped unused if they did not continue aging well. Being midday on a Wednesday with 4 patrons in the taproom we were able to have a good conversation about the barrel program which I appreciated.

No charge for the experience and didn't count against our pours, so we left a tip on the bar. Great visit today!

all the comments about "cellar temp" make me wonder what it would take to get TH to start producing cask ale. Like, the real deal. British pub style. Living beer, pulled from a beer engine. Milds, Bitters, Special Bitters....

The best part was he said it was the same distillery's barrels and the same base stout aged 13 months thus far. But each barrel's result tasted very different.

Would love to see it. Sorta surprised it hasnt happened yet. But the pessimist in me already sees them having to later say, "we had to stop cask beer because it didn't sell".

In the grand scheme of things, It would cost them practically nothing. a thousand bucks or so in parts. Maybe 2? It would be a taproom only thing.. but you're right. there's no real incentive for them to even bother.

We stopped by Tewks tonight given Em had to go into the office in Tewks and I had the time to meet her. Completely dead, which was fucking awesome. Nice to talk to the workers a bit. Have to say I grabbed another pull of Project 13. That was some harsh hop burn shit. Or as close to that at TH can get. Woman gladly traded if out for a haze peach. Wonderful beer. Also grabbed a can pour of Very Ggg. Em grabbed the human condition and both of us were a little underwhelmed. I expected a little bit more body and a little less of that fake flavor in it. Not horrible, but not great. The truffle version just a week ago blew it away!

Brought home some Quad Salted Caramel to make up for the other non caramel beer. Which is what she was craving. Quad was excellent but the coffee and base stout hold out a bit and preserver their flavor profiles over the salt and Caramel. Strike two for her, be we both agreed the body and base flavors were excellent. I think certain people perceive the coffee/stout blend differently

Randomly saw an add for some company BeerGiftGods. Apparently you can make custom gift boxes for people and have it shipped to their house. They are pumping it to you in the adds that they can send you all the TH releases. I had no ideas TH offered anything like this for their product. Please tell me this is some neckbeard just buying cases then reselling them through a “company” :joy:

Definitely someone who was already selling tree house on something like MBC and now going “legitimate” with this “company.”
