Finally got my hands on a variety pack (and picked up a Crushing Mass 4-pack in the process). First beer opened...Jinx Proof. Went down so easy. If this is around during summer, I'll be crushing them along with Dovetail Kolsh all season long.

Yeah, I would rank Z Ice several notches below ZD. Bitter, boozy, and it just feels really heavy. I'm halfway through a 12oz can and I'm the one feeling bloated. I'm not exactly looking forward to drinking 5 more of these.

This is wild. The opposite of what Zombie Ice was like for me. What's your canning date?

My date code just read "Not Even Close To The Most Important Beer of 2013", which I found odd.

We need a warm weather backyard BBQ Dad variety pack with Not-Drunk Monk, Jinx Proof, Speed Castle, and some wild card like Savage Flo or Region X or Kindergottenkoenig or Von Munster or High Speed Steel

I’m cracking up at all the people clamoring for Jinx Proof in this thread. If ya’ll were drinking as much of it as you are claiming you will drink this summer it wouldn’t have gone away in the 1st place.

This is nonsensical. Surely this is just a troll. *checks name* ok, checks out.

When something goes away and it comes back, people obviously drink more of it than when it was available 100% of the time. Know what else? When people aren’t satiated, people also over predict their enjoyment in the future. So, of course people are probably over predicting how much they will buy this time j the summer.

This is true for virtually anything in life, not just beer. -And, any parent knows this BS Logic when it comes to putting a play set in the yard or buying a trampoline etc. it’s amazing at the start, because you didn’t have it, but soon you want variety.

No one is claiming they ever had it as one of 3 beers they purchased a 6-pack of week in and week out.

In my case I wasn't drinking lagers back then but really enjoy them now and can't get enough when they're fresh and crisp

When I first tried it I remember thinking it just tasted like a beer and I didn't enjoy it. Now I'd be thrilled to keep it around because when I want a good lager I can't find it.

Champagne Velvet kinda hits the spot at times but its not the same

I did not find it particularly bitter or boozy, but I’m also the one clamoring for TIPAs. You’re welcome.

Zombie Ice may very well be the best beer of 2033. It may not be the future we asked for, but it’s the future we deserve.

    You make a good point.

    I enjoyed revisiting Jinx Proof.

I wouldn't buy a six pack if it came back, and I suspect I'm in the majority.

Preferences change over time. Not long ago ago, 2-3 years back, I wouldn’t think of buying any lager or German style beer with regularity. Hazy IPAs were majority of my purchases. Now, it has flipped.

    There are 3 of us!

I wasn't really into lagers when I got into craft beer, because I was (unsurprisingly) really into hoppier shit. Then once I had way, way too many hazy IPAs, suddenly the crispness of lagers became super appealing.

I feel like this is a general trend in craft beer overall, though; I see a lot more lagers (and different types) than I used to, and a lot more breweries making them now.

I wish there were more lagers in distribution locally (Minnesota). There seem to be an increasing number of lagers available at taprooms but the selection in stores is still very limited. Lots of IPAs, fruited kettle sours, and seltzer on the shelves.

Same in my area. Upland does a decent job and sometimes will package something other than Champagne Velvet. We had a new Upland pub about 10 min away.

My other local options are Louisville breweries and I don't care for most of their lagers although Monnik Brewing is solid. They do a lot of European styles and do them fairly well

But I have the same experience.. tough to find good ones in shops
