Redbeard Brewing (Staunton, VA) - 2022 Watson, an English style barelywine aged in Knob Creek barrel. Great bourbon aroma, paired with rixh caramel flavor without much sweetness.

I've got two to add here, both local to me.

First is Kiitos - Wheat Wine Ale

Almost indistinguishable in a way that is just Wheaty, fruity, smooth and boozy enough. Second time I've had it and will definitely be back for more.

    And earlier today I tried

Fisher Brewing - Feast(2022) American Barelywine

Big beer, great color, and overall mix of flavors. Malty, piney, sweet and boozy. Best part was a lingering hop oil on the end of the tongue. Would buy again for sure, but would perhaps age it a year or so.

    Cheers!

Aroma is heavenly. Digging where this differs from most.

Went with 2014 Fred. Age seems about right here. Mellow and rounded, still some carbonation. Tabaco, brown sugar, honey. Good start. Holding off on Matt to share with my son Matt. [IMG]

Just digging into a fresh box received yesterday from our thread's gracious host. First on the list is Three Floyds BA Behemoth 2023. This is very barrel forward with the citrus overtones from what i would imagine is a boatload of hops thrown into the brewing process being very prominent in the flavor profile. Am getting some notes of dark fruits but they are secondary. Overall a very good beer, rated it a 4.31. I am willing to bet, though i am not a fan of aging these days, that sitting a year or so will help meld the flavors.
    Cheers!

Hey Tom, glad you like that one! Last year's batch is tasting better now than when fresh and I expect the same from this year's, which is just better overall imo. Apart from my hair and waist lines, I'm not into aging much these days either. One of the exceptions I make though is for hoppy barley wine which I think tend to age magnificently.

Curious about your anti-aging stance. Anything in particular, or just your taste?

Most of what I drink is barrel-aged strong beer and while I think they generally hold up well for a year or two or even longer I haven't found that most actually improve with time for my taste.

There are some amazing exceptions for sure, hoppy barleywine and a long list from Hair of the Dog among others.

I also recently started a thread in the criminally underutilized cellar forums asking what recent purchases people are most excited to revisit in 3 to 5 years. So no, I wouldn't say I'm anti-aging, I just don't do it (intentionally) as much as I used.

Wheat Wine collaboration between Boulevard and Firestone. Comes in at 9.9% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky light brown with a hint of red. The nose is very subdued. A touch metallic, apricot, toffee, and some malts.

The taste is also somewhat underwhelming. Fruity for sure - apricots, peaches, and a hint of apple. Also getting an earthy note, along with some mild toffee, mint, and a bit of honey. Interesting, but definitely not what I would expect from a wheat wine.

Walked to Trader Joes in Silverlake with the wife and enjoyed this on the way there. This is a big sweet malt bomb. I like this vintage much better that 2019 and 2020.
And yes...i drank it straight out the can down Sunset Blvd.

    Sorry no pic.
Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Hops have faded nicely. Barrel wasn't as strong as one would hope but was way too easy drinking for the ABV. $15 for the 4-pack is a steal!

This is really good, just like about anything and everything else from these guys. However, I'm tasting a lot Sctoch Ale/Wee Heavy. Almost like a bigger, boozier and sweeter Founders Backwoods Bastard.

    Cheers! :beers:
