Well... since we're on the subject:

In the first decades after the release of canned beer, some brewers offered 48 packs. Here's one example from the first canned beer brand in the US, Krueger, from the mid-1960s (when it was being brewed by Narragansett in RI):
First column of prices is per individual can with the 6 pack price underneath it. Second column is the case price - so no discount for buying twice as many cans with a 48 pack. I suspect the 48's were mostly sold to retailers to break up into 6's rather than a consumer product - given the heavy steel cans of the period, 48 cans would have been a lot to pick up and carry out to your Studebaker.

My favorite ad for a beer for "Family Use":

Other than Papa, Mother and those kids don't really drink much - too hard for them to embroider or spell, otherwise.

Well, now that I look at it, I figure the kids are good for one each, the dog (out of frame) too. Mom is gonna pour two down the hatch. Leaves 5 for Dad. That covers Monday, repeat the rest of the week.

As you well know, there are lots of articles about beer & brewing written by folks who "lack knowledge of the industry". Those articles provide you with the opportunity to 'do your thing'!

    Cheers!

    What!?! :astonished:

One (or both?) of those kids spelled out BEER with their blocks. Doncha think that deserves a reward of a beer!?! :flushed:

    Cheers!

I worked at beer/wine drive thrus in the 80's. It was all 6, 12 packs and returnable cases of bottles with the exception of 8 pks of Stroh's 12 oz bottles and 7 oz 8 pk bottles of Miller, Miller Lite, Genessee Cream Ale, and Schoenling Little Kings Cream Ale. Stroh's came out with a 15 pack 12 oz cans around 1983. 30 pks starting appearing in my area sometime in the 90's. And a shout out to that 99 pack of Pabst that came out in 2019.

In Coastal North Carolina, Genesee is the only brand I have ever seen in 30 packs -- and those are only available at a couple of stores that I know of.

Until I saw the Genesee 30 packs, I wondered if N.C. had some nanny state law preventing anything larger than 24.

Happy hours are illegal here and no liquor sales on Sunday, so Big Nanny is always watching out for your best interests (and heavily taxing you for your "sins").

Holy shit NC sounds like a draconian Fear State.

Also sounds sad about 30pks goin away. Its pretty much the only format I buy beer in any more.

Yeah, 8 packs of 12 oz. bottles have come and gone over the years, probably based on region, competition and temporary promotions. Just a random selection makes it look like Ohio was such a region, with both Burger and Hudepohl offering them. But my favorite was a 6 pack of 16 oz bottles (RIGHT), a "Gallon of Iron City".

Schaefer was by then owned by Stroh, of course, so they were likely being run on the same packaging lines. EDIT - Although, pretty sure Schaefer's standard 24 can cases were called Weekenders, too.

In NC it is possible to buy alcohol on Sundays but it is up to the county/municipality.

Narragansett's first attempt at a horror film tie-in before "crush it like Quint", but unfortunately Freddy didn't take until some 20 years later.

Yes, you can buy Beer and wine on Sundays in NC. But liquor is only sold in state-run ABC Stores that are all closed on Sundays and most holidays.

30 packs didn’t last long for Stroh’s, as they pulled the plug on the concept in the Spring of 1989, or three years in which is about the age of the younger kid in their 1986 30 pack roll out promotional shot posted by @jesskidden.

You can also now get cocktails before noon as well on Sundays (depending on municipality). I believe you can also buy direct from distilleries on Sundays as well.

    Oh, but, wait
Yup. By 1990, Stroh had slipped to the #4 US brewing company and their popular-priced brands, Schlitz's Old Milwaukee and Schaefer, were both outselling their flagships Stroh's Beer+Stroh's Light combined.

And the discounting (and rebates) didn't stop with those Dec. '90 "Holiday Packs":

Your topic had me wonder how the widely accepted 6pk became so popular. Why 6 and not 4 or 8 or even 7 ? My guess is they were following a trend set by Coke.in the "way back when" universe where they used those metal carriers you see in antique shops. Maybe explore other users (besides beer) of 30 packs.
