As the LC has grown, going to small bottles is the difference in getting one or being on-site only. So I’m good with it.

fair point for sure. and i can live with $40. i’m definitely in the camp with @not2quick as i for sure thought it would at least be $50.

This is honestly a huge relief and really the only way forward, and not just for solo doming.

I'm not sure how many of you all have had this experience, but despite being some of the most hyped bottles at a share, the large SP stout and barleywine bottles almost always end up being the only bottles with large amounts of beer left in them at the end of a share. Sure, it's to the delight of the host that pops on a carb saver and enjoys them the next day if he's not hungover, but no one else is clamoring for more.

I honestly don't know anyone trying to boss pour this shit anymore, it's just too damn heavy, and 25 ounces is a lot of damn beer to kill off no matter how many people you have, because invariably, the more people you have at a share the more god damn beer they bring!

Or else I need to set some stricter rules next to around...lol.

I haven’t had much of an issue of drinking a SP 750 since I either split with friends and or enjoy over hours/days.

That said, I saw a ton of all stars wasting pours of 375s, etc. and other obscene amounts of expensive beer at Stout Week just for those bottle lineups to be put on IG.

I don’t do whale shares as often as I take a bottle over to dad’s house where my wife, my brothers and my pops crack open the good stuff. For drinking one or two beers in a night, the 375 mL is not preferable. I want five people to have ~5 oz pour, not 2.5 oz pour. But! Beggars can’t be choosers.

I’ve literally never experienced side project stouts being left at bottle shares and they have always been the ones finished first.

These days I tend to pour around 3oz at shares, often less. Even though shares are fewer and further between, I'm no longer interested in getting messed up on pastry stouts, and when there are 30+ beers being opened, I'd rather keep my palate as clean as possible for whatever may come next. Some of these beers are just so oily and sticky that they linger on the palate forever and land like a thud in the gut.

Having a 750 with three other people would be nice, but then again that would limit us to a small handful of 10-15% beers considering the larger size pours that would entail. Plus, if my friend group slayed whales like that with only a couple of us present, it wouldn't go over well, so when we get together for just one or two beers, it's usually to drink something more accessible.

March 21st, 2023 will forever be known as the Great Firesale of Derivation 17. Never before during my time in the craft beer scene have I ever seen this many bottles pop up for sale of a particular beer within an hour of its release.

What generous mark up have these LC side hustlers conjured up?

First wave went for 400 and then when people stopped biting on that price, the slackers who didn’t post their bottles for sale immediately started unloading them for 325-350. Will probably be sub-300 by the weekend.

I’m not complaining. Makes it easier for people like me to acquire, especially once these bottles inevitably are made available for on-site consumption to the public.

Oh damn. Didn’t realize this was already being poured.

I’ve said this a million times already but you St. Louis locals are so spoiled when it comes to beer lol.
