Hello BAs, I’m not new to the site but my social presence here tends to be intermittent due to the nature of my job at times, and having too many hobbies. But I generally don’t go too long without peeking in or logging in a beer or two. I’m a fan of American Pale Ales but love ales in general (and a lot of lagers too) except for most sours and funky beers. From the middle of September through November (best time of year IMO) I almost exclusively drink Festbier and Marzen. I enjoy most of my beers at home but do like to visit local breweries when I can. I am fortunate that MD has over 125 breweries and gets pretty good distribution though there are still about 15 states that I haven’t had a beer from and haven’t seen represented anywhere on the shelves here. Back in 2017 I had the pleasure of enjoying beers in person with @cjgiant and @DoctorZombies. I was also once in the same can release line with @VABA but didn’t know until we both posted later that day on WBAYDN. I have been drinking craft beer since 1993 and really enjoy it, as well the time I spend here at BA. I have always been impressed with how nice just about everyone on here is. So, thank you to all the BAs, especially the Mods, for making my 6 years here a great experience. Cheers BA! -Brian
It's been nice seeing you back online recently, Brian. Maybe we'll get a chance to enjoy a beer or two together again in the future, perhaps watching a particular AL East match up at a Maryland brewery or craft beer spot. Cheers!
Thanks! It's been fun being active again, hopefully I can manage my time better and keep from going dark for long periods of time. And that sounds like a great Idea!
Welcome Brian! I’ve enjoyed your posts in our Tournament and also WBAYDN threads. We don’t get many beers from Maryland here, even for festivals, but many breweries skip us over due to our onerous distribution laws and the tough environment to break into our intrenched existing market at this stage. I’m looking forward to our Guinness brewpub finally opening this Summer in Chicago after many unnecessary govt permit delays. My brother visited the Baltimore location and enjoyed his visit. Sad to read they are closing their attached brewery, but are still keeping their innovation / small brewery. https://www.baltimoresun.com/busine...0230403-lwlxsqy3bfbylm3dr4jctd75nm-story.html Cheers!
Thanks Jason! I don't travel outside of MD/VA much so I don't have a handle on what actually makes it out of the state, in my mind its mostly Flying Dog and Heavy Seas. I just found out about Guinness this morning from some co-workers but haven't read anything on it yet so thanks for the link. This bums me out. That building was a distillery when I was a kid growing up about a mile through the woods behind it. You can see it through the trees from my parents place when the trees are bare. I was excited when Guinness bought it and started producing adult beverages again. I am actually going to a barrel tasting there this Friday. I just got caught up on the MBM thread and wanted to thank you again for everything you put into it. I'm looking forward to the planning thread for next years tournament!
Hey, Brian, it's nice to 'formally' meet you. I noticed your Two Hearted posts/votes in the Beer Madness Tournament, and I think you've been very active in this forum too. I would have never noticed breaks in your activity here. I'll look forward to future interactions.
Nice to meet you as well! And yes I have had a high opinion of Two Hearted ever since I first tried it 6 or 7 years ago. I only drink it sporadically, when I catch it fresh at the bottle shop. One of those beers that I usually check on. It’s hard to pass up when I see it in the neighborhood of 15 days old or younger. I’ve recently been watching this forum because I feel like I’ve been around long enough to welcome new members, which I think is important, apparently you and a few others do as well. But I have also enjoyed learning about more seasoned BAs too. So many personalities on here. I’m sure I will see you around. You have been a visible and friendly member ever since I joined. Cheers!
Your barrel tasting sounds awesome, hope we have similar options here with Guinness. The tournament was the first time I ever brought Two Hearted home. It’s good, but Founders 4Giants is my favorite IPA out of Michigan. I wish I could find it regular here.
Hoping to grab a few pics from the barrel tasting to post on WBAYDN. We’ll see how it goes. I think I’d have to stick with Two Hearted being my favorite IPA (so far) out of Michigan. But favorite beer… that may be a toss up between Two Hearted and the Baby, with Backwoods Bastard in a very close second place.
Hey Brian! I remember that meet up in Virginia with @cjgiant in VA the summer of 2017. As I recall we shared some awesome beers with the bar manager - welcome back to the site, and Cheers!
Thanks Dave! And yes we did, at Rustico. You were nice enough to bring along a bottle of Hunahpu's Imperial Stout to share along with great stories of your beer travels!
As I recall, we shared several tasty beers, especially after the bar manager joined in the fun…good times!
