Mostly after local distribution craft? Mix singles?

Which side of state line are you on?

My store recommendations aren't as strong as they used to be since I'm not buying as much anymore, but I can still make some recommendations.

Yea mostly local distro craft. Prob won’t get a chance to hit too many breweries so hoping to maybe find a one stop shop that carries a good selection. Doesn’t necessarily have to be singles. On the MO side.

The two breweries around here that get a lot of notoriety are: Alma Mader & BKS Artisan Ales. I'll make lists based on those two areas, should you want to hit a shop and then a brewery. FWIW, BKS does mixed four packs, so you could leave with most everything in their cooler for the price of a pack or two.

    BKS Artisan Ales area:
    1. Mike's Wine & Spirits in Brookside (63rd Street)
    2. Brookside Wine & Spirits

    Alma Mader area:
    1. Mike's Wine & Spirits in Westport (Westport Rd.)
    2. Plaza Liquor
    3. Gomer's in Midtown

If you're strictly after a one stop & shop, I'd go with Mike's Wine & Spirits in Westport. Good selection of local, and I think you can split out packs.

Vine Street Brewing started local distribution earlier this week; while their taproom opening is still TBD, I believe they’re aiming for some time in the next month.

Have you heard anything about 39th Street Brewery?

I feel like I keep hearing about it, but never a date. Would be nice to have a brewery to walk to for once, but at this rate, it will open long after I move.

I did have Crane & Vine Street Brewing's barleywine collaboration a little while back and enjoyed it.

Any cool releases coming up in KC at the beginning of April? Going to be in town from 4/1-4/5. Plan on hitting up BKS and Alma Mader as I’ve never had. Must stop for me is always KC Bier Co too

I haven't heard anything recently about 39th St's progress on or a timeline for opening, so I decided to check the permitting/plans they've filed with the city, and...I don't think they'll be opening anytime soon.

BKS & Alma Mader post their releases for the upcoming weekend on their Instagram accounts. Usually upload Tuesday-Wednesday to show what they'll have when they open on Thursday. May want to check both places hours, as you may have to swing thru on Sunday.

I haven't been paying much attention to KC Bier lately, but they usually have some special release 6ers in their taproom. Looks like they released their (first ever?) IPA for this spring.

I've pretty much stopped tracking releases outside of those breweries, so I can't really say what others are doing / offering.

That would explain why there has never been a date mentioned....

Still plenty of places I haven't been yet, but was eager for something in the Midtown neighborhood. Wish something would open in Waldo, although, I guess that is where City Barrel is going.

While @Harrison8 largely covered the relevant beer release news, I'll add that if you enjoy Boulevard's offerings, they have a handful of brewery-only releases scattered throughout the year and are typically announced with little advance notice.

Also...depending on if/how recently you've been to Torn Label; they expanded and now have a kitchen - the food was excellent and more adventurous than standard brewpub fare.

Bad news: the chef that had run the kitchen since that portion opened recently left.
Good news: the kitchen space is being taken over by Tacos Valentina (who had been doing regular pop-ups at Alma Mader and Casual Animal) at the end of next week.

a response to every one here
For upcoming beer release schedule :
Check on torn label and strange days. They are always putting out new stuff that aren’t hazy ipas. Also they release hazy ipas a lot too
Alma mader is a can’t go wrong
Bks if they have their mild available
Boho brewing in parkville will have really good lagers
Big rip brewing will always have something awesome available to go.

    Liquor stores
    Bubbles in grandview is awesome
    Mikes in Westport/Waldo is great
    Gomers sucks.
The pairing is amazing if you like lambic and cool cider and fresh beer

There's not really any obvious answers to that question (largely because there aren't any stores in the metro - in either MO or KS - that *really* focus on craft beer to elevate themselves in discussions like these), but Tipsy's in Mission gets my vote. It's easy to get to from I-35 and most of the Kansas-side breweries are no more than 10-15 minutes away.

Tipsy's is my go-to suggestion on the KS side as well. They have one of the better mixed pack selections in the metro too.

Alma Mader has an anniversary beer release this weekend. Anyone have an idea of what it is?

The anniversary beers thus far have been a lager, an IPA, and a lager, so *definitely* an IPA...right? :stuck_out_tongue:

This is an awesome breakdown! Thanks @Harrison8

I am doing a tight rope walk next Friday. I am driving with my very pregnant wife through Kansas City on my way to Lawrence for a wedding and hoping to talk her into making 1 stop where I can pickup stuff from BKS, KC Bier Co, or Alma Mader (sort of a Supermarket sweep of beer). I think I'll be on Hwy 70 (or 470). Not looking for rare BA stuff, just fresh beers I can drink. If you had to recommend 1 stop, considering I'll be sort of off the highway, which would it be?

Second question, anyone know of any good spots for beer in Lawrence?
