Yep. It’s not as far for me but still out there. I’m doodling out heart maps on my trapper keeper nonetheless. It is to be.

Cushwa Brewing - Top Billin'. Barleywine aged 14 months in a 10 year Wild Turkey barrel, conditioned on vanilla honey. I just dates, mild toffee, oak, vanilla, raisin. A touch boozy.

I wrote that mostly in jest, I had no qualms whatsoever about buying this beer. It is accurate, but like you say it has baggage. My alternate description for Manchego is also accurate, but putting it on a label wouldn't help sales.

Do they still make this one? I've still got a few from the case I bought a few years ago, I'd like more some day.

Funny, I thought this years was much more hoppy and bitter (lol) than 2021 or 2022. I think I have 4 left to collect dust

Cool post. I get your thinking here, but on the other hand, it seems fair since the brewer appears to be inviting the comparison with the name. You’re just following through.

They don't list a style as far as I know, just calling it barrel aged beer.

I agree the side by side was the natural thing to do. The winner was pretty clear.

    I have been summoned!

Here's the words that have the basic info, see the pics below for great details:
    "
Electric Roads is inspired by the iconic warm sound of the Fender Rhodes electric piano. This blend of barrels showcases notes of toffee, molasses, vanilla, raisin, dark chocolate, and figs. The rich toffee tone resonates from the nose all the way through the comforting finish. Electric Roads used multiple double-barrel-aged barleywine threads that boosted the ABV, bolstered the oak character, and rounded out the intensity via additional oxidation from racking one barrel to another.
    ABV: 15.6%
    C02: 2.2
    Bottling Date: 1/2022
    Barrels:
    123,Dejohnette, old Fitzgerald 13mo, E.H. Taylor 13mo (17)
    124,Dejohnette, old Fitzgerald 13mo, Eagle Rare 13mo (17)
    132,Dejohnette, Eagle Rare 12mo
    146, Bartz, Elijah Craig 9mo, Bookers 9mo
    147,Hutcherson, Pappy 7mo, 100 gal French oak Cognac 7mo
    163, ½ Hutcherson ½ Pools Of Reflection Pappy 7mo, Rittenhouse Rye 7mo"

Here's the info I have on the barrels, which is provided in great detail by Brad:

If the barrel # has a hwy 17 marker next to it, it means it was driven down Highway 17 to Santa Cruz, which if you've driven 17, you know that means it got sloshed around quite a bit on it's journey to the Private Press barrel room.

And then details on the beers that went into those barrels that then were blended to produce this delightful beer:

Probably more detail than you wanted, but maybe you geek out on this stuff too.

Another quality photo from my Fisher-Price phone.

This is a solid brew. Sticky sweet a bit of a boozy kick. Good thing Mrs. Spade is driving.

It's been way too long since I've been to Iron Hill... I was a mug clubber back when they first opened in Lancaster. I enjoyed tons of great beer there.

My sister gave me a membership for my birthday a while back, so I make it a point to get there occasionally. Been wanting to try this one for a while. This was at the Lancaster pub.

Boss Ryeway from Revolution. A rye ale aged in French oak rye barrels.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark, slightly reddish, brown. The nose is great. Toffee, oak spice, maple, and vanilla.

The taste is really nice. Warming. Nutmeg, vanilla, clove, toffee, maple, brown sugar, cinnamon, and rye spice. It's a bit syrupy and artificial tasting. A bit of cold medicine. This is really good, but it's nothing spectacular to me. A nutty flavor really comes out as it warms.

Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. Aftertaste is somewhat medicinal.
