[IMG] Enjoying a present from my coworker who moonlights at Imprint on weekends! They’re version of an English Barleywine, “Inaudible “. Superb to say the least!

Rudenko from Buxton Brewing. A bourbon barrel-aged barleywine. Comes in at 12.5% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with little head. The nose bursts with caramel and vanilla. Not much is revealed on the nose.

The taste is really nice. Caramel candy, prunes, malts, banana, slight oak, and some tree bark. Some marmalade kicks in after a few minutes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied.

I picked this up on an MBC auction..Wasn't sure if it was American or English...Definitely American..Wierd smell of flowers and faded hops..Pretty syrupy with a strong alcohol and light hops. I was hoping for a little more out this, it's not bad but I think a few years ago, it would have been great

Ive been away from this thread for a bit. Got some boxes in from the west coast and I have been drinking alot of those treats, many of which are lower ABV lagers. that ends here. this is Barreled Souls out of Saco, Maine an their Mad Scientists collab with Equillibrium. This is a 13.7 % ABV brew with dried figs and vanilla beans added. Cross posted with the What New England beer are you drinking now thread.

    onto my review:
sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my trusty snifter. Bottled on 10/04/2022. Picked up at the brewery about 10 days later.
the beer pours a rich dark cola brown and almost no light passes through my glass. A dense creamy beige head foams up about 3 cm and fades to a sturdy surface layer that sticks around through the sampling.
Aroma is rich and toffee and caramel with some vanilla and I definitely get the fig notes too. I really feel like I get faint cinnamon in the background too. No hot notes or booziness even at 13.7%>
First sip reveals a medium body with soft and smooth texture and fairly gentle carbonation. I do get a little stickiness on my lips with each sip.
The flavor is malty through and through, with toffee and a bit of fig notes, then getting overtaken by the vanilla, which carries through to the finish. Not much for hop character and only booze hints is a bit of a black pepper bite at the swallow, never any heat though.
This is a sweeter barleywine for sure, and the vanilla is strong. I do enjoy this one and find the figs and vanilla work well together. Solid brew from the team in Saco!

Not too sweet? That is my issue with a lot of their beer. They add lactose to so many beers.

These cans are nitrogen infused, how is the mouth feel?

Can confirm a few (6) years ago it was great! Had it a year old and was not bad. Had it then 5 years old and it was fantastic.

Ah...good to know. Since it was a 15th Anniversary brew...I'm guessing they only brewed it in 2012?

I would be annoyed if I picked that up and only realized it was a nitro can when home.

Yeah, maybe my favorite barley wine in its weight class. Had one a few days ago and was happy to be enjoying it once again (the previous bottle I had didn’t click with me at all).

It says so on the cans, but the wording isn't very large.

I'm pretty sure they only made it that one time. I could be wrong.

Mine are all from what was released a few years ago now. I don’t know for certain they haven’t made it since but they sure haven’t distributed this one (or other barleywines) here since.
