There’s some talk going on about our breweries tasting room themes. Good, bad or ugly, share yours here.
I remember the tasting rooms I visited back in the days were just that, tasting rooms with labels. Seems like the beers named were more of the themes. Beachwood’s Julian Shrago is a metal head guitar playing, so a lot of the names are song, album or band related. They even had a box for you to suggest a beer name. Gabe/Julian chose a good location for their staple brewery/tasting room/restaurant. By the way. I thought I read somewhere the food menu has started back up in Long Beach. Great news! One thing I’d like to see Gabe bring back is the Hop Cam. I’d have to say Phantom Carraige was probably my first themed tasting room I visited. Maybe Bottle Logic? I couldn’t figure out what BL’s theme was about. I’m not into thriller, scary movies or dark sci-fi movies much these days but I thought PC theme was pretty cool for the times.

Game Craft Brewing in Laguna Hills has a video game theme.

GC’s parrots theme is cool and could lean into it more. They should have a parrot mascot making sure your smiling while drinking but that would be against their code of conduct.

Monkish has a cool abbey theme that they could lean into it more by making their employees wear cowls and sport a halo cut, and play some Gregorian chants over the speakers, but those are not gonna help foster a good working environment, let alone work there, or help with the overall vibe of the place. I will settle for the chair in between the bathrooms and the bathrooms, and the occasional Wu-Tang tracks blasting over the speakers.

Phantom Carriage had the coolest theme for a brewery. They had a great space with a movie theater and really had the look, and vibe down. I attended their first and second anniversary parties and they brought out their hearse and casket, haha! Pretty fun overall.

Themes are generally fun. Most breweries are already in boring industrial spaces, and it’s cool that they want to go with a theme for their spaces.

My biggest complaint about Monks is the music. And I’m not complaining here, just not my style. Hip hop is the theme sound for both locations. I can sit and enjoy a pour or 2 at Anaheim while chilling out to the scene. Music doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe if they played some Tibetan meditation music? Or Tibetan hip hop? Now I’ve been to Stereo a couple of times when they first opened. You could bring our own albums and they would spin them while drinking. I don’t think they will play some of my vinyls that I have.

Speakeasy in SF has a --wait for it--speakeasy-themed brewpub.

Or at least they did--I haven't been out there since the before times.

RRBC Santa Rosa is a classic sit down and enjoy the company of others tasting room. Simple with some great beers. Good pizza and food.
My favorite name for a brewery goes to Smog City. But whats the theme? Smog? Maybe they should have photos of LA and area from the 70’s & 80’s how bad we had it here with the smog.

Does Santa Rosa still have the trough in the bathroom? No joke, I took the last leak in a trough a Dodger Stadium (fan at least) before they were gutted. Me and a friend snuck in during the off-season renovations in 2014, and I did what I had to do.

My last time I was at the SR location it was still there. I believe the Forum still has it also.

I went to El Segundo Brewing for the first time Tuesday night. The music inside was so loud I could barely think. love rock music and I am huge Black Sabbath fan, which was one of the bands played. It was too loud to sit and enjoy a beer. I was at top golf for a work event so I stopped by after. Had 1 beer and left. Maybe with a group but just hanging out solo it was too much.

It hasn’t opened and I haven’t seen it in person but the pictures I saw on Instagram look rad. The new spot in Anaheim Villains Brewing looks like a cool theme.

I hate places that do that. When I lived in Las Vegas there was a nice little Japanese family owned restaurant near to my neighborhood. Great food, good prices, and they always had soft Japanese music playing in the background. It set the mood perfectly.

Then one day I go in to have lunch and there's hip hop music blasting away at a loud volume. I decided to order my food to go, and wait in my car until it's ready. I went back a couple of weeks later, same thing. Then I decided to wait a couple of months to go again (I usually went every couple of weeks or so) and finally it was back to the good old soft Japanese music. I have a feeling there must have been complaints.

Don't know what they were thinking when they switched to the obnoxious level of volume and music that just didn't fit the place, but it almost made me avoid that restaurant forever.

I too love my rock music loud, but at a concert or in my own space and time. NOT. At. A. Brewery. Where. I’m. Enjoying. Beer. And. Friends. That’s annoying like my last statement. Black Sabbath would be appropriate at Phantom Carraige tasting room. Along with Pantera. Joke.

Whoever designed Angel City's tap room deserves an award, because I don't mind drinking their awful beer in that cool space. It's a great LA theme: all style and no substance.

Three Weavers always felt like a vacation lake home theme. They have all the old board games piled up next to old picnic tables on an old wooden deck.

The old LeasureWorld spot was really nice. I did frequent it a lot. Once the pool opened I did hang next to the pool with beer in hand checking out the scenery and whales. Quite the view. Too bad.
