Recently while visiting my father I stumbled across some really old beers he had stashed below his bar. Two in particular I have the urge to crack open and try. One is a St. Pauli Girl imported dark beer. It doesn't have any date on it but may be as old as the 70's. The other one is a Dark Henninger Bier, imported from Germany which also could be that old. He has about six others or so but I figured the dark beers would have the best chance of aging well. My only other hope is the fact that it has been in a completely dark bar where virtually no light has touched it. Dare I crack open that old of a beer or simply hang on to the full beer bottles as kind of a be at little find. My personal philosophy is if you have beer, mine-as-well drink it. Can someone please help me out. Cheers!

It ain't gonna kill you, so drink up and tell us about them. Probably oxidized and flat with a wet cardboard taste but I bet it puts hair on your chest. Merry Christmas!

Chances are its well past its prime. Have a few sips and see how it tastes. I recently found a stash of beers from the mid 90's. None were great but one of the light lagers still had a crisp Saaz finish.

Drink it, video it, and youtube it so that we can all see the facial expressions of either greatness or absolute terror!

I'd be shocked if St. Paulie's girl tasted good at all.

" My personal philosophy is if you have beer, mine-as-well drink it. " You are without a doubt a scholar of epic proportions. Chill the beers in question to the ideal temperature, then pop the tops, pour into a glass for a sense of security, then imbibe.

Invite a buddy over to funnel some beer, let him shoot the oldtimer down then if he survives you know it's ok.
