LC email mentioned they selected 2 rye and 2 bourbon barrels where they made a Double Barrel Reverberant blend.

 

they set aside a portion of each (bourbon & rye) for a double barrel iteration. not sure whether there will be two DB versions or just one.

Wasn't aware of the DB Anabasis sale, but here's to opening it's available on site this weekend. That and Van Winkle BBT would be a superb visit.

Haven't read much on Van Winkle BBT - but how is it? Worth it, or should I opt for one of the Derivations instead?

FWIW, I do love plain stouts. BBT 20 and 21 are some of my favorites, only ousted by DB Stagg Jr. Derivation from last year (?).

 

The on-site DB Generational they did was my favorite barrel-forward the beer of all time until I had VW BBT.

D16 and D17 are great pours and worthy of a try, but if you want barrel, you want the VW.

 

i prefer no additives in my BA stouts too and i was let down by VW BBT. liked D17 more.

 

I haven't seen the e-mail, but the way this post is written (which I assume is just like the e-mail) makes this sound like a 100% blend, and not appropriate (i.e. misleading) to actually use the term DB. DB is supposed to be out of one barrel and into another, whereas simple blending of beers BAd in two different styles of barrel is just...a blend.

The email specifically says double barrel aged and it says to create a beer for the future. I doubt it’s just a blend.

 

i had the same thoughts. i feel like it also leads to a third option… blending the two and then transferring to another barrel type. guess time will tell.

i do feel like SP has been consistent with the term double barrel to mean two different rounds in barrels though.

 

Agreed, that's what stuck out to me. I couldn't think of another one that they had done like that, but also it seemed weird that they specifically chose 2 of each barrel type. I don't have the memory that others do for their beers, but that seemed unusual.

There was a mention of quadruple barrel aged, I’m trying to remember where I read that

 

It was in either an email to LC or a blog post regarding this being the tenth anniversary.
