Seven Story Brewing outside Rochester is closing because of an unreasonable rise in their rent. Piece of shit landlords strike again.

And that same landlord has already said they’re looking to fill the spot with another brewery so good luck to that brewery when the rent rises again to an untenable level.

That’s a shame. Hopefully Seven Story can find a second wind somehow.

It's part of the 12% thing, so not having a taproom may not make this the most relevent to the thread, but enough people like Folksbier it's probably worth mentioning the new brand Schenker is apparently helmed by their old head brewer. They're even releasing a Glow Up fruited berliner.

Was totally under my radar (embarrassingly since I grew up down the road) but 3 Bastards Brewing opens in Vernon on Thursday. Only about 3-4 miles from Turning Stone if you're out that way.

Just came here to post this. Definitely will be on the lookout for cans and follow the progress. I loved Folksbier and was so pissed when they abruptly closed.

Finally made it back, and picked-up the Kveik Red, and a Norwegian Saison. Very tempted to use the horn!

The Kveik Red is chuck full of Maillard influences. The head slowly transformed to rocky, then sea foam, leaving a thick cake of lace behind. Sweetness edged out bitterness, both mild. Floral, nutty, lightly toasted malt. Prune, honey, and faint smoke in the aroma, with only the honey translating into flavor. Mustiness carries from the first sip and builds in a long modest finish. Two dorky thumbs WAY UP for Kveik Red!

Not an opening, but a closing, Shepherd's Eye Brewing, Florida, NY, closing, effective this Sunday, April 30th. Cryptic message on Instagram saying "there are other circumstances that we must tend to." This is a bummer. It was a good place with decent beers, good vibe and good staff. I wish them well.

Update from this post in the 2022 thread about a new brewery in Souderton, PA
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...eweries-in-planning-2022.664186/#post-7456218

They have now renamed themselves Brass Collar Brewing, and have been posting pictures of construction updates on social media. But no word on an opening date - I assume still months out.
I like the name, but their logo graphic looks terribly amateurish - hopefully this is just a draft.

Looks like maybe they are going for a cross between dogs and railroads.

    1) Mean Max’s Troy location looking at opening this month.

    2) Can’t find the name at the moment but a place opening up in Warrensburg (north of Lake George) sometime this year. Not much info on taproom or beer styles yet.

Wild random but Bridge & Tunnel Brewing out of NYC opened a second taproom recently in Liberty NY (like the exact middle of the Catskills). You can actually make a daytrip now out of that, 17 West (also in Liberty) and Russian Mule

    - Place called Smugtown Brewing planning to open in Henrietta NY (Rochester suburb), they go before the town soon to apply for permits and shit so likely looking at a 2024 opening there.

    - Big Dogs Brewing just opened in Walden, NY, and has apparently taken the place of The Brewery at Orange County Hops.

That Common Roots news is so dope. Still gonna brew some of the legacy Pump Station beers (I’d imagine Kick-Ass Brown for sure, maybe the Quackenbush Kolsch) and the the rest will be CR taps. Pump Station seemed to have just given up on the brewery side of things once Sam left but now a great building in a killer location is in loving and capable hands.

Hope they bring their food, too, Pump Station food has been a shell of itself in recent years.

Personal Best in Ithaca has announced a soft opening for… tomorrow from 12-9. They first announced their existence well before Covid. This will officially be my last post about this place—unless the beer is incredible, in which case you’ll wish I would just shit up already.

Hopefully their beer is better than their website. It’s a very short walk from my office, so fingers crossed. Come to think of it, I should give Liquid State another chance too.

So here’s a good reason to type ‘(place close to you) breweries’ into Google Maps every now and again.

I randomly did that with Kingston yesterday and, even though I’m there often, there are two new spots since I was last there that I had no idea on.

    - Slow Fox Farm Brewing is a bit outside of town, but a really cool open-air bar on their farm. Beers were solid enough (blonde ale was a standout) but the location is really peaceful and beautiful.

    - Kingston Railyard Brewing is right in town, maybe a mile north of Keegan. Didn’t get to check it out yesterday but will be making a trip soon.

    - Return Brewing in Hudson is open! Four taps to start, outdoor only to start, I’m sure that will change. Excited to check them and Upper Depot out very soon.

The beer is definitely better than their web site. It seems to be a two-person operation (now three with the brewer), and they've been just slowly pecking at the project as they've found the money for each stage. They came out of the gate with 17 beers. There were a couple hazies that were really good (I'm going to vouch for Another Green Whirl). I thought the Italian pils was good as was the vanilla coconut stout. It's sad to say that they destroy Ithaca Beer Company.

I'd say Liquid State is definitely worth another chance. They may not be making anything that's going to get hyped on here, but most of their beers are on point for the style. It shouldn't matter so much, but as a local guy I do care that they're good people. Much respect to the folks at Liquid State.
