Barleywine Appreciation Thread (2023)

Good call brotha!

 

Yet CT is one of few states where it's legal for a passenger in a car to have an open bottle. Weird state lol

 

Enjoying a Komes Barleywine. I cannot recall having such a cherry forward EBW, not that it is a bad thing! Some notes from my review:
Nose is cherries, caramel, and baked wheat bread.
Taste is cherries, brown sugar, caramel, with a touch of alcohol booziness.
Mouthfeel is really nice, full bodied and very smooth with each sip.
Overall a nice representation of the English Barleywine style! Rating 4.04.

 

In 1969, they passed a bill in Connecticut allowing women to sit but not stand at a bar. Before that, women couldn't be legally served at a bar.

Went to my beer supply and all I had was Bigfoot, JW Lees Harvest Ale, and Olde English. I decided to go with one of the nicest American beers. @Resistance88

Los Angeles is different.

I always feel like Snake Plissken out here.

Police have rolled up on me before and made me pour my beer out once, which was an Undercover Shut Down, and other times i have had them right behind/ in front of me while i drink a beer.
I've done it in bookstores, restaurants ( taken my OWN beer cuz their lists are shit and just hide it under the table) , at the mall, the library, plenty of the bug streets and many other places .

I'll prolly never stop ...I've been doing this since i was 16

 

We used to sneak beers in when going to see bands. When I first moved to Philly we would walk around drinking beer from a sock instead of a bag. There was an area that outside drinking was ok if it was concealed. Not sure if that’s still a thing.

Always said outlaw beer is the best.

I opened my 2017 Bourbon County Barleywine yesterday, and I think it's my favorite barleywine I have ever tasted. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get another bottle at that time.

hate their hours but needless to say i plan to go clean them out today

Update/Edit : this thing is all Dates , Caramel, Toffee glory. No aggressive sweetness like SJ at all. In my book this knocks SJ ,Smog City OE and all them Out Of The Park .
I may buy 2 bottles . Just at 24 a bottle it's kinda hard to justify it cuz barleywine isn't life for me
