Finally, Mama's Little Yella Pils from Oskar Blues had shown back up in stand alone 6 packs at the store. It's been awhile. Different can design since I was last able to get it. Canned 5-1-23, 33 ibu's, and 4.7% abv.

1) Dovetail Kölsch (4.6%): A Kölsch-style ale from Chicago with flavors of earth yeast, smooth pale malts, cracker, and bread. Smooth, clean, and dry.
versus
2) Fair State Köld (4.7%): A Kölsch-style ale from Minnesota with flavors of vinous, citrus, and orchard-fruit yeast flavors atop a pale malt body. Yeasty, fruity and crisp. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Winner:
2) Fair State Köld: A great Kölsch battle. First try at Dovetail, which has excellent reviews on BeerAdvocate. It has authentic Munich bread malt flavors. Mild yeast and focuses on the malt flavors a bit more. I think Köld is more impressive with the complex yeast flavors to give citrus, floral, and vinous notes. Dovetail Kölsch is good, but I think Fair State is excellent.

Day 26 of the journey, brewery number 31 - Lumpy Ridge Brewing, drinking “Lumpy Ridge IPA”, another purported WC style IPA with Columbus, Azacca, and Cascade:



Another marketing gimmick…not a true WC style per the bartender, just not bitter…toss in watery…I’ve had a number or these charades this week at the microbreweries…may the many gods forgive the unfaithful…Cheers from Estes Park, CO!

 

1) Drekker Night Machine (8.1% canned 4/3/23): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Mosaic, Vic Secret, Amarillo, Citra for flavors of lemon, melon, orange, grape, and berries. Oats and spelt to dry with Citra to give it a bite.
versus
2) Drekker The Noodle Effect (8.3% canned 4/25/23): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Belma, Vic Secret, and Hellertau Blanc for flavors of of berries, grape, and white peach. Smooth and heavy malt body. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Winner:
1) Drekker Night Machine: Another Drekker NEIPA battle. Both have Vic Secret, but The Noodle Effect is fresh and has more berry, grape, and peach flavors. Oats and spelt hide the alcohol and sweetness a bit. Very drinkable and well-done. Night Machine has similar flavors form the Vic Secret and Mosaic, but also a nice citrus bite from the Citra. The Noodle Effect is heavy and smooth, but Night Machine has just enough bite and tingle on the palate to invite another sip. That's what sets it apart. Both are just a touch too sweet for my taste, but I guess this post can testify that Drekker NEIPAs don't always taste the same, which I was beginning to wonder.

 

Dang! Last can of this. I need more for sure. Kros Strain Hot As Helles Habanero Jalapeno Pepper Lager. Salute!!
