    A) The guy was a hoarder back in the day. He said this was "his last one". I think he had 3. The only other time I had KH it was another one of his bottles.
    B) You are correct, we all like each other and share our stash freely!

    bringin it olde school tonight!
Anyway, this is Hair of the Dog Doggie Claws 2015 vintage. Got it in one of my orders from the brewery over the past 2 years or so. Ive had other vintages of this beer, but figured tonight was a good night to open one. My daughter and her U10 travel soccer team won their first game tonight! as a coach , Im doubly excited and proud!

the beer pours a clear mahogany color with no head, is this actually Don? I mistakenly let a glug of sediment drop into the glass at the end of the pour. Most stays in the bottle, but I didnt miss some of it. Even with an aggressive pour, no foam anywhere.
Aroma is surprisingly malt forward with toffee and brown sugar and figs with what I swear is cinnamon, a very earthy and not spicy cinnamon. I get it with every whiff from the glass. I also get a bit of a lemon citrus scent in the background here. not boozy or peppery on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body and slightly slick texture. Carbonation is almost non existent, which was advertised in the pour. the beer does drink pretty easy for the 11% ABV.
Flavor is also malt driven. I get toffee and brown sugar and some dark cacao. This mixes with figs and tobacco and dark cherry. I do taste a faint cinnamon note on the swallow, this is emphasized with a bit of warming from the booze on the swallow. I dont get any hop profile notes and beyond the warming there isnt any booze bite on this beer. Im digging the complexity on this beer, even if the cinnamon is totally throwing me off.

    Central Waters 4 year barleywine
This was as far as they had available by the time I got there. That’s ok, it’s pretty damn spectacular.

New this year and to me

RoHa Brewing Project - Strength in Numbers Wheatwine

Purchased from the brewery direct - $5.25/can

    No canning date

Poured at fridge temp into a tulip glass and let warm up.

Pours a very light and barely opaque copper with a loose tan soapy head. 4

Aroma is very faint, though I do pick up pear fruity sweetness. 3.75

Full and rich wheat/grain, slight fruitiness and big malt. Feels and seems like a plain Jane Wheatwine with no adjuncts which I adore. 4.25

Body is ultra smooth with no alcohol burn and has a slight bready chewiness to it. It feels like drinking a lager but is much fuller and tastier. A Wheatwine that drinks like a lager you say? Sign me up. 4.25

Overall for a young and on the lighter side of boozy for a Wheatwine this thing takes told and I can't wait to get my hands on more of this soft and delicious danger. 4.25

    Imprint Beer Co - Inaudible

Pours into my mug with some flecks of sediment, so it's not clear until that settles to the bottom of the glass. Decent aroma of rich caramel and a touch of fig. Similar flavor, a bit of butterscotch in there. Good but not overly complex. Pretty good balance, not too sweet. Which given Imprint's normal style was something I was worried about, and the reason I only picked up a single of this instead of a 4-pack. Sticky mouthfeel.

Central Waters Brewing 2023 1-year-aged BA barleywine at Central Waters MKE. That is @superspak in the background. We are attending Milwaukee Metalfest. This a very good beer, but the versions with additional aging are a lot more smooth and complex.

Had a snifter last night of the 2019 Nevermore, from Ex Novo, brewed with cocoa and figs:
Pretty good stuff, but not mind blowing. The cocoa seemed to have mostly faded, while the figs came through loud and clear.

I finished off a bottle of Xyauyu Etichetta Gold the other night after opening it a month previously. Man I love these still barleywines! Time to get into another from @FBarber thank you sir!

Xyauyu Kioke, once fermented and aged for 18 months, is open-air aged in a new Kioke barrel, i.e. which has never been used for the fermentation of soy. These barrels are made from Japanese cedar, a type of cypress.

This isn't a huge departure from the Gold I had recently, but the wood certainly adds an interesting new dimension. I still get plenty of sweetness in the form of honey, brown sugar, marshmallow, and sugary dried fruits. The cedar is obvious but not overwhelming, adding a nice spicy, earthy woodiness that builds throughout, becoming fairly potent at the finish.

This is absolutely marvelous, never had anything like it. So glad I got to try this!
