So what was the "less than pleasant experience?"

The beer smelled like an overdone yeast starter. It was gross

Like, just overly yeasty and bready? Or had it gone sour?

Ok..well then can you describe what "a less than pleasant experience with a can of Hopfenlager" correlates to?

No acidity detected. I honestly sat there is dismay, smelling it over and over again thinking I’d gone crazy. It was just really gross dough aroma

Thanks for the additional notes...appreciate that...not sure how to decipher your impressions but maybe someone else could but be careful noting anything subpar on Dovetail beers on this thread for the future....some like to live in fantasy land where all Dovetail beers are always great and distributed in perfect condition without any flaws ever detected and if they are detected they should never be noted in a public forum where people look to before buying beers (hence: just let people buy infected beers on their own)...

Drank a can of Thank You, Friends Hopfenlager today - reviewed it over in NBS - no issues with it and it tasted great.

Good to hear. That's what beer advocacy is all about. Noting the good and bad and hopefully the brewers realize the bad and address it. I love a lot of breweries but I'm not a fanboy who thinks no-one can do wrong. As noted before I have no issues with most of the Dovetail beers I've had but clearly there has been some quality control issues with cans as noted by several people that I hope they addressed...your impressions are definitely pushing towards that...

Saison is tasty as ever, fruit forward, crisp and less phenolic than last year, a great Summer beer. Only got a single and now I need more.

For what it's worth to Dovetail friends & foes alike, I found Dovetail Kölsch on tap locally last night (and not listed on the establishment's UnTappd menu).

Much like their Helles, this beer was delicious vom Faß. Before I saw the tap handle I'd already had a locally-brewed Schwarzbier (also quite nice), so I didn't focus on the Kölsch for any assessment other than drinkability. Next time.

Picked up a 4pk of the newly released Holiday Bock at the brewery while in the area for the DW release on the weekend. Such a good beer and perfectly suited for the 'Holiday' season with the delicious fruity esters. A top notch winter seasonal imo.
