Midsummer beer and food pairings

I don't think Texas has a winter, but I grew up in Illinois ha.

 

I always say, good thing about 4th of July, summer's almost over.

Yeah I know, not a big summer fan. I get Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) but not like most people, who get it in the winter. I love the cold season, just my luck what with climate change and global warming.
Odd, as I have Southern European roots, but there is some question of some Finnish genes cloudying up the gene pool. Or so I tell myself.

 

Just the opposite for me -- much northern European genes in me, but the older I get the more I can't tolerate cold weather.

In the heat of summer I don't enjoy hot or warm foods so much, so whenever the opportunity arises I like ham salad or chicken salad sandwiches. My favorite way to fix either kind is thick-sliced rye bread, a leaf of crisp, green lettuce and Miracle Whip. The ham salad is also good with a slice of Swiss cheese, or occasionally I'll add a few dill pickle chips.

The beer of choice is any pale-colored lager or ale that has no residual sweetness in the malt, and hoppy is a bonus.

 

A Czech Dark Lager with Italian sausage is a classic summer pairing for me. Hell, it's year-round

Ha! I was going to mention having memorably participated in Sweden. Not a thing in Belgium 'sfar as I've seen — but we've been on a crazy run of hot and sunny, and people are ouuuuuuut on the streets of Brussels in force. And yes, lots of festivals and such going on, although not so pagan-solstice-y. It feels like I should've had ... a beer at some point tonight.
