A new imperial stout for me tonight. The Abyss Coconut. 14.3% ABV.

The taste is incredible. I just love this beer. Black licorice, burnt wood, smoke, very dark chocolate, slight bourbon, macadamia nuts, burnt coconut, vanilla, molasses. There is a slight sweetness - maybe a hint of maple. The aftertaste is charred wood and roasted malts. Wow - this is just a super solid imperial stout.

Cross posting this with the New Beer Weekend thread.
Another night of New beer for Sully via another imperial stout from @snaotheus and the ludicrous amount of big beers he sent me in NBS BIF#17. Thank you for the opportunity to try all these west coast beers!
This is Stoup brewing from Seattle , Washington and their Sticks and Stones Bourbon barrel Aged Imperial Stout. My bottle says 11% ABV.

    onto my review:
Sampling a 22 oz waxed bottle , 2023 vintage. the beer is at cellar temperature and I am pouring into my trusty snifter. My bottle says 11% ABV , not the 9.9 listed on the site.
the beer pours a dark cola color and no light passes through my glass. there is a dense creamy beige head of about 1.5 cm that foams up from a gentle pour. This foam sticks around as a sturdy surface layer and leaves dense lattice on each sip or swirl of the glass.
Aroma on this beer is what you expect from a BBA stout, even if it isnt the most robust nose. I get some chocolate and coffee grounds mixing in with toffee and a good bit of bourbon sweetness. I dont get any fusol booze nor any hop character here.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and fine gentle carbonation.
Flavor is also not super robust but it all works well. I find some chocolate mixing with toffee and a good dose of bourbon coming through which lingers on the finish. No hop character and its not boozy or peppery bite. However, I do get a bit of warming booze on each swallow. This is a pretty simple, not flawed and tasty BBA imperial stout. I would like it even more if the nose and flavor profile were stronger, but still am glad to have tried this one.
    4.11 in the BA DB

Enjoying a 2022 Parabaloid while I take the kids on a bike/ stroller walk around the neighborhood. It's still quite nice, but the raisin and fig notes are coming forward hard. Chocolate and barrel have taken a back seat and the classic Parabola char note gives the whole thing a rum raisin cake kind of a vibe.

I'm gonna try to get to the rest of these faster than I originally planned

Drank a 2022 Parabola while cooking dinner. It's also starting to take on a touch of the raisin but the barrel, tobacco, char, and chocolate are still going strong.

I thought Parabaloid was much better than Parabola when both were fresh, but I'm liking the Parabola much more now.

Excellent barrel program down there in Paso Robles though. Such nice BA stouts

Bought too many damn stouts today, time to dig in. I found a pack of these in Maryland a couple of years ago, but this is my first sighting in Pennsylvania.

Sorta subtle but satisfying, cocoa, burned caramel, mild vanilla, and at the finish light ash and muted bourbon. This isn't as super sweet or as gelatinous as most of what's out there, I'm really liking this right now.

8oz cans don't make having a second imperial stout a good idea, but it's at least a 33% less bad idea.

I love these. The maple syrup is blessedly barely discernible alongside the robust coffee addition to a wonderfully dry, roasty stout. I want more right now but 8oz is the proper portion.

That's exactly what makes this beer great . I love me some BBA and RBA Old Rasputin.

    Currently enjoying this bad boy.....
The infamous 2013 BCBCS . No pepper at all, nice subtle heat, tastes like a Kopiko coffee candy with a splash of alcohol .

Not sure where my head was 2 years ago, but I didn't love this back then. Dumbass I was.

I lucked into a pack of this back then, fuckin loved it. The recent release fell short of it.

Peanut Brother, an imperial stout with peanut butter and cocoa nibs.
Probably my least anticipated beer from the Big Stouts box, PB in beer, for me, rarely works out well. I can taste it and not much else. Oh well, there was only one and now it’s gone.
    Cheers

Since we do not see it on our shelves in Hendersonville, i will need to make a run out to Oskar Blues location in Brevard, NC one of these days and pick up a little BA Fidy too!

This was definitely my favorite from the 2021 variant offerings to us beyond Chicagoland. I rated it a 4.43 but unfortunately have none in the cellar to compare.

Very excited by your review Tim! My trading partner two hours down the road from me, former BA BMBCLT provided one for me this spring along with Black Butte XXXIV and the regular Abyss which was my gold standard for the IS style 15 years ago. Hope you are enjoying your Canadian adventure!

Stretching the rules of the forum but felt since this brew was dark and double digit ABV it is worthy of our forum.
Shout out to Tomas @Resistance88 for sending this in a care package late last fall, Firestone Walker's Smoked Walker's Reserve. I appreciate that you have satisfied my jonesing for FW beers given i do not have direct access anymore! A review below:

Nose lends notes of smoked meat, bourbon, leather, and vanilla. Comes across like most dark FW barrel program brews.
Taste is smoked malts forward with some chocolate following this. Malts give way to significant barrel aged notes of bourbon and vanilla. Finishes balanced with a smokey follow-thru.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth, typical of a porter.
    Overall rating 4.32.
    Cheers!
    Tom

Perennial - If Not Now, When?

really enjoying this one. as per usual with perennial, the additives do not overpower the barrels nor detract from the base stout. this one is thick, rich and chocolate-forward. cheers!!

Another from the Extreme Stouts box, this one was much more to my taste than the last one, had all the roasted malts and some bitterness from either the roast or the hops, all in all, a solid RIS.
    Cheers!

Well Crafted Brewing (Lansdale, PA) - Free Form #3. 11.7% abv

Toasty, a little vanilla, but also earthy bitterness reminiscent of black licorice. Sticky mouthfeel, fuller bodied.
