Here's a huge beer that I have had for several years. In fact, I think I bought this in Germany when I lived there 5 years ago. Again, this was supposed to be a bottle share beer, but I always bring too much! Zombination IV from De Struise. A huge stout that comes in at 17% ABV. Zero carbonation. One of 900 bottles, and bottled in 2017. Aged in Ardbeg barrels for several years. Bloody fantastic - notes over in the stout thread. Cheers all!

Poured at fridge temp. Zero carbonation. Pours black as night. The nose is coffee grounds, tobacco, roasted malts, tar, peat smoke, molasses, a slight earthy note, and a bunch more smoke. Holy crap the nose is intense on this one!

The taste is one of the most intense tastes I have ever had in a beer. Bloody amazing Ardbeg scotch barrel presence. Peat smoke, black licorice, molasses, charred wood, roasted malts, really strong notes of port, cherries, blackberries, and raisins. Dang.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Aftertaste is surprisingly sweet, but accompanied by a bit of smoke.

Interesting. I experienced the same thing with a 4-pack of Kuhnhenn recently. One bottle was missing a label.

Hmm! It tastes fine. Hopefully it’s just an error.

We did a side by side with varieties of Speedway that I brought back from Colorado at our last SAN: while none of them were bad exactly, we all preferred the original. But sometimes curiosity gets the best of us, no?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained! At least the variants serve to remind us how good the original is

Nice review Tim! Even though i can enjoy a dram of Hebrides finest on occasion, i have only had a few Scotch barrel aged beers and none of them have been well executed. I still have bad memories of Stone's version of it; Steve Wagner was a big scotch head and so Stone released an Imperial Stout aged in Scotch barrels...man it was tough to sip on.
    Cheers!

Oh, bummer! I don't remember the Stone stout aged in Scotch barrels. Maybe I missed it. I agree that it's tough to do well, especially the peated Scotch. I have tasted some pretty bad stouts aged in peated Scotch barrels. Cheers!

Drinking down the cellar, one beer at a time. A really nice BA stout from a small local, some cinnamon, chocolate a hint of maple and of course bourbon.....good stuff for sure.[IMG]

The back end spiciness overpowered the barrel aged bourbon flavor. But still good.

Came down to the basement to watch Black Mirror and forgot a glass. Drinking this @Resistance88 style cuz I'm too damn lazy to go back upstairs.

I don't chase stouts like I chase barleywine because there are so many reasonably priced options. This more than satisfies my BA stout itch without impacting my credit score. Don't ever change Sierra Nevada.

I've seen you post a number of varieties of that beer and it's making me quite jealous. How strong do the differences in the coffees show up?

I can’t really discern a noticeable difference. That being said, I’m not a coffee connoisseur, but the coffee flavor is noticeable but not overwhelming!

The question I have is if you think it’s better than Speedway- my current gold standard for coffee enhanced imperial stout. Regardless, they do all sound really good.
