    I said I wanted a Bug Light…

T minus 2 years until and American brewer cans the first cricket smoothie beer with an absurd amount of hazy crickets in each can…

This resolves the terroir in beer question. Crickets from the basement of the Budweiser brewery are the ultimate adjunct and impart the goût de terroir of St. Louis (or any other ABInbev locale).

I'd try it fer sure. Has to taste way better than some of the adjunct & additive laden beers out there now.
They've been putting oyster shells in stout for ages, so why not?
Crickets are good and they're good for you and the environment.
I think a scorpion in the bottle would be neat, like Scorpio mezcal ala Cave Creek Chili beer.
Only we North Americans hesitate when it comes to eating bugs. They are a popular food source in many parts of the world. They taste better than you think. When you think about it, crabs & lobsters are just ocean bugs, more or less.
I've had brownies made with a portion of cricket flour and they were some of the best brownies, other than the "special" ones I have ever had.
    Don't fear the critter.
I wouldn't be surprised if main stream AAL's have some bugs stowed away in the grains.

People have been eating bugs since the get go so why not make some beer with the suckers?

Not sure how environmentally friendly this is, but if it's a more sustainable practice then I'll support this.

Lo siento, pero I’ve never heard of a Mexican folk song called “El Grillo”—I’m sticking with my original answer

In a blind taste test I'd think that many people who have a problem with "bugs" in their beer would enjoy it. Obviously, the physical matter's left behind in the mash, and then the rest is boiled (disinfected). I'd try it.

Build / maintain muscles from bug protein while drinking beer, count me in if it tastes good and has no additional side effect from regular beer.

Cucaracha is cockroach. The song is about a cockroach. The beer is made with crickets, hence their name for it - La Grilla. I realize you're making a joke (and "sticking with it"), but it's like saying a beer w/o rye should be named "Rye of The Tiger" because rye and barley are both cereal grains.

Well you nailed me on telling a singularly bad joke, then explaining it in case @Resistance88 didn’t get the “La Cucaracha” reference (according to Wikipedia, the song dates to 1910—and I have no idea how old most BAs are or what cultural references they are aware of). But the joke was that a Mexican beer made with insects should be named after this folk song, and thus perhaps it should have been made from cockroaches rather than crickets in the first place. And now you’ve gone and made me explain the premise of the joke as well. So muchas gracias for that.

I've actually had a beer made with insects -- 5 Rabbit Brewing in Chicago made a gose called El Chapulin Colorado (a one-off beer as far as I know). However, the crickets weren't used as a malt substitute; the intention, as I was told, was that the roasted ones have a salinity to them, and that was used to get the salt character for the gose. I was lucky enough to stumble across it at The Green Lady; it was one of the best goses I've had.

I just searched my Google Drive and found that:

Epic Brewing poured Chapulin Gose (Sour Ale brewed with Crickets, Agave Worm Salt & Spices 4.3%ABV) at Extreme Beer Fest: Los Angeles in 2017

Benchtop Brewing poured Leipzig Gose (Gose made with roasted red grasshoppers, chipotle peppers, and lime zest) at Extreme Beer Fest: Boston in 2019

Maybe Right Brain? I was just discussing them on Threads. They may have brought their grasshopper beer to an Extreme Beer Fest ages ago.

I'm sure there are plenty of others too.

So 5 Rabbit and Epic both brewed beers with crickets and each had to close a brewery location. Too early to draw a correlation?
